Sugars

HI! I have a question regarding sugar intake. I eat about 1300 calories daily and noticed over the past month that I typically go over the suggested sugar intake. I eat mostly a vegan diet (with the exception of light yogurt a few times a week). For breakfast, I eat fresh fruit and I may have an orange in the afternoon, along with a healthy lunch and dinner of veggies, salad, grains, etc. I looked up some information about how I can decrease sugar intake and it states to eliminate sodas, cereal, simple carbs, etc. I don't drink soda or eat cereal! I have lost 45 pounds since 1/15/2012 and just want to make sure I will continue to even with the "extra" sugar I consume. Thanks for your help ;-)

Personally I think the natural sugars are nothing to worry about provided you don't have any medical condition that would require you to limit them.
Fruit has a ton of sugar but it's natural and a much better sugar for you than regular white sugar.
Some other foods have tons of sugar in them so watch for anything processed you are eating. To make things lower in fat and sometimes calories the manufacturers pile sugar into them.
Ultimately I wouldn't worry too much if the sugar you are consuming is mainly from nautral sugars and not processed.0 -
you can turn off the sugars tracking - I'm not sure it serves any real purpose. http://www.myfitnesspal.com/account/diary_settings
Glucose, Fructose and Sucrose from fruits are the same as from anywhere else, but unless you have a reason to limit them then ignore it.0 -
Sugar is sugar, none of it is better or worse for you. It is a carb, simple fuel for the body.
Assuming you are not diabetic/prediabetic there is nothing wrong with sugar as long as you don't overeat it.0 -
I try to avoid sugar because the more sugar I eat the more I WANT to eat. If you're not eating lots of processed foods and you're not riding the insulin roller coaster, I wouldn't worry about it.0

I usually end up eating over my sugar as well, but I don't eat any refined sugars / processed food. It's all from the fruits I'm eating and natural fruit in sugar is better for you considering all the other nutrients / health benefits (fiber etc) that is found in fruit.
I'm now trying to "eat clean" so 80-90% is all natural, organic, fruits and veggies and some days I'm still over but it's my fruit.
I think you're ok and wouldn't worry too much about it. What you're doing / eating is working for you.0 -
