HELP ME CALM DOWN!!!!

So my doctor told me that I am on edge ALL the time, and that the constant stress that I put on myself is the reason I am a) not losing weight and b) why I've gained in the last six months. My eating hasn't changed, nor has my exercise regiment.

I've always been a high-stress individual, so I don't really know how to calm down. For a while, I was having 2-3 baths a day, but I want to stop wasting water, lol. What do you do to calm down? Incense? Candles? Music? Meditation? Deep breathing?

Yoga is NOT calming for me, lol, so don't say that. IT'S HARD!!!!!!!!

Do you have any hobbies you really enjoy that you could do for 30-60 minutes a day? Maybe quiet time reading a book or deep breathing?

I too am a very high anxiety person. I've learned to control it with breathing and I've found comfort in working out. I was on medication for awhile and it really helped but I've had to come off it since we're TTC.

Well, I train my dogs, and yes I do like reading...but it's hard when you have a 4 month old puppy running around the house, lol. I guess I shouldn't say anything - it's nothing compared to having a child running around and trying to stay calm.

Can you cage the puppy for 30 minutes to get a break and calm yourself?

I don't kennel, but I could probably figure out a way to put him at the back door for a while.

The thing is that even if he's put away, I still can't calm down. Reading doesn't really 'calm' me. I enjoy it, but it's not like I de-stress.

Going for a run de-stresses me, or anything that makes me physically work hard ;)

What I used to do was sit. I was a Buddhist for a while, and they teach you how to sit and meditate on, well, nothing. It clears your mind so that, as things come up, you can handle them one at a time. Now I go to the gym and work out until I'm too tired to stress. That usually works well enough

I find my hobby makes me more on edge.

However, I'd like to get back to being able to exercise hard enough to relax after. Best feeling ever.

I also have high stress and anxiety. Breathing exercises a few times a day really helps. Deep, abdominal breathing affects the parasympathetic nervous system resulting in relaxation and a reversal of the changes seen with the stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system (stress and anxiety). I find concentrating on my breathing for a few minutes 5 to 6 times a day helps keep the stress under control.

You sound like my boyfriend.. He drinks beer or goes out and works with the horses, but beer is not a good long-term solution, and unless you have access to horses, that probably wouldn't work for you.

I go running for a while when I'm stressed, but that's just me.
