My doc just put me on Levaquin yesterday--she said I can't work out for 10 days because Levaquin can cause tendons to rupture. Now a friend of mine said it could last even 3 weeks after that--is that RIGHT? She said I can't take another antibiotic because it's the best for my throat infection and also I am allergic to penicillin.
I was upset enough about being sidelined for 10 days, my wedding is in 94 days and I've been doing great and I'm 25 lbs from goal and really toning up nicely. I was so happy with my progress. Now this!
Please, if anyone knows about Levaquin please fill me in I'm freaking out!

I'm allergic to Levaquin but you should contact a pharmacist. They can tell you for sure.0

It's a rare side effect that tends to occur in older adults, over the age of 60. It is a serious side effect but I've never heard of people saying they can't work out when on it. I wouldn't do anything heavy if you have a history of tendonitis though. Initial signs are swelling and pain in the tendons especially the achiles tendon.
I'd go with your doctor's recommendation and wait 10 days. Go for walks and stuff (use sunscreen though, increased chance of burns), but after that it's up to you. Watch for the signs and stay hydrated, and maybe ease back into it.
Edit: Other meds can increase your chances too...so yea check with your pharmacist.
Edit(2):[U.S. Boxed Warning]: There have been reports of tendon inflammation and/or rupture with quinolone antibiotics; risk may be increased with concurrent corticosteroids, organ transplant recipients, and in patients >60 years of age. Rupture of the Achilles tendon sometimes requiring surgical repair has been reported most frequently; but other tendon sites (eg, rotator cuff, biceps) have also been reported. Strenuous physical activity may be an independent risk factor for tendonitis. Discontinue at first sign of tendon inflammation or pain. May occur even after discontinuation of therapy.0 -
Thanks, I am just doing so well for once staying on track that I'm upset and worried now.0
