Risk of weight gain when calories are increased

Read an article today that talked about "High risk of rebound weight gain when calorie intake is increased" Anyone else read anything about this?

1200 calories a day is way to low for me (I am 5'7 and 128 Lbs), I did it for the past 2 months and lost 14 pounds (3 pounds away from goal), but I noticed that when i brought my calorie intake to 1400 - 1600 a day, I am losing faster. I am losing 0.2 pounds a day with more calories and some days not exercising).

I followed the rules for my TDEE and deducted 15%, it says I should eat close 1600 calories a day (without exercise) and eat 1800 with exercise), and it is correct... I am losing the weight faster then 1200 calories a day. Plus, I am not starving myself ;)

Ok, so i am only on day 2 off upping my calories but, each day I have lost 0.2

Done it for 2+ weeks now; now being at maintence and I haven't gained yet actually lost almost 2 lbs the first week. My body needs the fuel for what I do to it. Some will gain at first and hopefully it won't discourage them bc as many have said they leveled out. I

I've never gained upping my calories, I upped my calories to 1800 when I had to work 60 hours one week so that I was getting enough food for energy and stayed the same (which was my plan) 1200 isn't enough for my body either, i have a very active job, so I eat 1500 and eat back any exercise calories.

Thanks for the info I may have to try it since the scale seems to stay the same.

I don't know if this will help but as a guide, I'm 5.4", 123 lbs, female, 22. I have a desk job but walk to work. On non exercise days I burn 1900. On exercise days it's about 2200. I tend to do weights at the gym as I've cut my cardio down. I have got a body media fit which is meant to b about 95% accurate. I eat my tdee -500 cals and that works for me although I don't have much to lose so next week I'm thinking of going to 1/2 lb a week loss instead of a whole pound.
I know we are all different but if you are taller/heavier/more active, chances are you burn more and therefore if you are losing at 1600 I think you need to continue eating more to lose more. ESP if exercising.

I think some people might see a rebound when they first up their calories (I didn't gain, but I plateaued), but I think that depends on how long they had been eating low. From what I gather around the boards, it comes back off eventually, but everyone takes a different amount of time to adjust.

Good for you for taking to it so fast! Great results! :drinker:
