Headache after workout...

Options
Ok so I seen that several people have had this problem and that they believe it is related to dehydration. I keep having this problem and I have been drinking about 96-100 oz of water a day. How much more do I need to drink or is there another reason this is could be happening???

I get it sometimes. My Dr. told me it can happen, especially after strenuous exercise due to the effect exercise has on the blood vessels. When they dilate this can also occur in the skull, thus resulting in a headache. So, if you are not losing too much water, or things along that nature, it could just be a side effect of the strenuous exercise. If it gets worse, perhaps talk with your Dr. to see if there are things you can do to try to prevent them.

Thanks, I am guessing that it's from the strenuous workout not dehydration. Hopefully it won't happen everytime since I am actually starting to enjoy those workouts!

It sometimes happens to me if I'm not eating enough that day. I have a specific spot in my head/ on my head where I get the pain and I know that I need to eat something. Shortly after I feel much better. I notice that if I lean down to pick something up the pain pulses so bad it feels like my head is going to pop off. But it's not an all-over headache, just one spot.

I get them sometimes and it seems to me that it is a combination of water and sugar.

Having tried a million different things over a lot of years, my fix is to down 2 pints of water and eat 5-10 fruit pastilles, I guess any sugary sweet would probably do.

Not breathing properly while working out, especially during strenuous workouts could also lead to headaches (hyperventilation).....

this was me before but after focusing more on my breathing while exercising, I find that I don't have headaches after exercising (of course hydration and all that also helped too)..............breathing correctly is very important when working out....

When it happens to me, I take some excedrin and a nap.

That's a resting blood pressure? I'd check it right after your workouts and I bet it is high then. Exercise raises blood pressure while you are working out and lowers the resting blood pressure over time. While it is high from exercise, however, it can cause headaches. Check it as soon as you are through working out or when you notice the headache starting to rule out a blood pressure issue. If it is blood pressure, take your intensity down a little to prevent the BP from getting out of hand while you workout and eventually you will train the body to be able to do higher intensity workouts.

i had them nonstop for like a week...i haven't got them any more ever since. I am not sure but i think at that time i was drinking sugar free monster before my workouts (horrible btw, just have coffee) I have also heard taking an advil before working out helps, but i wouldn't always do this.

A little off topic, but I drank too much water before and during a cardio workout once. I got really dizzy and nauseas and basically had to wait it out. Not cool!
