i have a question to ask how much does getting a good night sleep have to do with weight loss. Could not getting a sound sleep be one reason I am not lossing. Thanks for any input.

Nutrition, Exercise, and Rest. You need all 3. Like a 3-legged stool. If one is missing, the stool will topple over.

I have read that it is true and seen it on tv but I do not know for sure, it makes sense if you think about it

Stress of any kind can block weight loss, lack of sleep is stress. Be sure to be honest with your diary, eat well, move. Weight loss goes at different paces for different folks.

I believe it does, for sure. Although I hope not too much, because my baby wakes me up at 7 and I don't sleep until 1, with lots of waking up inbetween.

I have heard many times that getting adequate sleep can affect weight loss, though there's always the possibility that it's just one of those "weight loss myths" without any real merit. It would make sense though, I mean when your body is well rested it can work more efficiently and I would think that means more efficient burning of calories, fat storage, etc. Getting more sleep is something I need to work on, too.

Asked Claressa Shields (US team for Boxing in Olympics) whats the best thing to do for an athlete and her reply was "rest well". Folks don't realize how much rest plays into the affect

I like this analogy. Research shows that those who receive less sleep tend to have a higher rate of obesity. Also, many of us tend to eat more when we are tired (probably in a misplaced effort to attain the energy to continue forward and alternatively, it gives us more waken hours to think we are hunger and want to eat.

Absolutely, personally my weight loss stalls if I haven't got enough sleep. In fact I gain. I reached my highest weight over a 4-6 week period where I only got 6 hours of sleep almost every night. I gained about 12 pounds during that period.

Your body doesn't have time to repair itself and to top it off it starts craving sugar and caffeine which doesn't help your cause.

From what I've read, your body replenishes a lot of important hormones when you sleep including ones that aid in weight control.

Yep....I agree with Jadedone....if I don't get at least 7 hours a night, my weight loss stalls or I even start retaining water (even if I am consistently watching my salt intake). Matter of fact, I've stalled out over the last few days because I have a cold and being all stuffed up at night makes sleeping difficult lol. Can't wait to get back to my 7 or more hours and get the ball rolling again!

Yep, there are two hormones that work at night and affect weight.

Ghrelin is the "go" hormone that tells you when to eat, and leptin is the "stop" hormone that tells you to stop eating.

When you are sleep-deprived, you have more ghrelin and less leptin --> weight gain and slower metabolism

I personally dont sleep long, but when i hit the pillow im out for the next 4 hrs and im back up in full throttle.
