Heel Pain-Any Advice?

I wake up in the morning with pain in my heel so bad it hurts to step down on it. It is starting to affect my workout in the morning. Any advice to offer?

Sounds like it could be plantar fasciitis. You can google it to see if that fits what's happening. You may have to see a doctor.0

I had this and it's very painful. Def see a podiatrist. Stretch after workouts (the calf), roll your feet on a frozen water bottle. That worked for me!0

I used to wake about 4 hours after going to bed as if someone was sticking
A needle in to my heel.
I also had myself fitted for running shoes which have a raised arch
As I suffered with shin splints when I started running0 -
I agree with hbrittingham - definitely see a doctor. My mom has plantar fasciitis. She has found that biking has helped her keep her fitness up without being on her feet so much.0

I know that pain very well. It does sound like Plantar Fasciitis, but definitely get it checked-out by your doctor. I have to wear orthotics now, but the pain is completely gone. I wear Orthaheel.0

Is it achilles tendon pain or pain on the plantar/bottom side of your foot?
If it is achilles pain, I would stop exercising immediately until you see your doctor. If you don't, you could be at risk of tendon rupture. I wouldn't worry as much about plantar pain, however, I would give yourself a few days rest with frequent icing and elevation and see if the pain improves. If it does not, then see a doctor.
Additionally, I actually had to stop running due to severe plantar heel pain myself a couple of months ago. I had no idea why it was bothering me, but I figured it might have been the new shoes I was working out in. A few weeks later, I came to find I had developed a plantar wart where the new shoes were rubbing against my heel. I've never had a wart before, but it literally felt like I was stepping on a rock everytime I put pressure on my heel and it took several weeks of (duct tape!) treatment before the pain subsided. i've had broken bones that didn't hurt as bad as that stupid thing.
Anyway, without more info, it's hard to say what might be going on, but you probably need to at least take a few rest days so you don't risk a more serious injury.0 -
I have the same issue and was diagnosed with plantar fascitis. My doctor advised that I stretch and ice as others recommended and get a pair of heel lifts to put in my running shoes ($10 a walmart) and they have helped a good bit while running. He also recommended that I take as much advil as I can to reduce inflammation. Honestly, none of this has been working that much long term. The lifts help while running but have little affect the rest of the time. As everyone else said, you should go to the doctor - I'm almost positive that's what they will tell you that you have. But, I'm thinking I'm going to have to go back for the next step. That being said, my doctor told me that the most intense cases require surgery that doesn't do much of anything. So, I'm not quite sure what the actual solution is.0

When I read online it sounds like Plantar Fasciitis. It is so painful. I got fitted for some proper running shoes and was hoping it would alleviate the heel pain but it has not done a thing with that. No more pain on the side of my feet but the heel pain is still very persistant. I am sad. Needless to say I walked/jogged 4 miles this morning despite the pain. Thanks to all for the advice and help I will check with my doctor to get a referral to a foot specialist.0

I had the same problem, but the doc was able to give me an anti-anflammatory to clear up inflammation. This was several years ago, even today if I find my heel starts to hurt, I'll take one and the prob is gone.
Hope you get this cleared up soon....I know it's miserable!!!!!!0
