Will a short-term calorie decrease work?

Hello all,

I started my weight loss journey at the end of January, and I was at 1200. I steadily increased for a while after I hit a plateau, and I'm currently at 1600. I hit a snag in April...wasn't able to exercise for the entire month, and I gained a bit.

I have a cruise planned in a week and a half and I am SO CLOSE to fitting into the shorts that I bought specifically for this cruise.

Would it hurt overly much if I dropped to 1200 for this last week and a half? I just want to lose that tiny bit so that I can fit comfortably into those shorts. They're just a bit too tight to be comfortable right now.

Anybody had any success in using a short-term decrease?

I doubt it, but your eagerness might hurt you long term. I don't judge when I say that, just keeping it real.

Don't decrease what you are eating, maybe increase your workouts and really watch what you are eating this last week and a half. If you drop down suddenly I would just be afraid of in my own opinion, getting overly hungry and then eating too much. Good luck and have fun on your cruise!! And remember you look awesome whether your get to wear those shorts or not!!

Not sure what you mean by "eagerness"...I've been doing this for 4 months now the slow and steady way...I just wanted to know if there were any short-term possibilities out there for a relatively small amount of fat loss in the long run.

I've been thinking the same thing and my conclusion is that yes, it would work in the short run. It is a bit like calorie zigzagging just for a week instead of a couple of days.

That makes sense. It would only be for about a week. I could slowly increase after the week to get back to 1600. I think I'll try it, just to see what happens.

I was just wondering if a week and a half was enough time to screw up my metabolism, or lose muscle mass.

Definitely not long enough to do any damage. in my opinion.

My only thought would be that when you get on your cruise if you start eating 'normall' again (or, as cruises encourage; loads) that you'd immediately retain water and swell up and the shorts wouldn't fit and then you'd be dissapointed on the cruise. I've just got back from a cruise and I'd taken a dress with me for formal evening that fitted me when I left to go, but by formal night which was only 5 days after i'd last tried it on it was tight and I could't wear it. Luckily I'd taken a backup dress, but it still got me down a little. I say focus on your cruise, not the shorts! Save them for the summer :)

I'm sorry, I don't understand the meaning of your post. Perhaps you would like to re-word it?
