I am not a HUGE runner, but I run 3-6 miles 4-5 times a week. Anyways, last night my toenail next to my big toe started hurting and it was blue. My husband runs minis and never had had this happen before. Anyways, I realize it might be from not big enough shoes and such. I called the nurse hotline and they told me to do one of two things...heat up a paper clip and melt my toenail until it releases the pressure or stick a needle just under the nail and relieve the pressure that way. So, I did the needle under the nail. Should I be concerned that my nail will fall off? And, if it keeps filling up with blood, do I keep popping it?

I have no idea how to treat runner's toenails. Sorry.

However, when I had my last pedicure the tech took off the polish and revealed a bruised toenail. She was so sad that it was black and I said "YES, I'm officially a runner!" The best t-shirt I saw in my last half marathon said "Toenails are for sissys." I do know mine was caused by shoes that were a half size too small.

Good luck and congrats on your running.

That's awesome! I had that happen but I went with a heated needle to melt my toenail. It was really cool to see actually.
