As grilling season is officially starting this weekend, I want to know if/how you count the marinade that use on your meat. Obviously not all of it stays on the meat, but there is a bit of sodium that needs to be counted. Thanks

I say about a tablespoon if I just marinated and cooked it. If I baste and drizzle at the end I up it to 2-3T. Enjoy!

I only count it if there's a thick layer of it when it goes on the grill. Also if I'm basting....

But for instance I've brined meat with salt/brown sugar/etc and I don't count that.

Absolutely count it. I usually go for 1 tbsp as well, unless it's slathered on there. Why wouldn't you count salt and brown sugar? You're eating it aren't you?

My thought with the brine is that I have no way of knowing how much is on there. I rinse the meat before grilling. The only thing I'm actually ingesting is whatever actually got into the meat.

I can see what you mean. The calories are probably negligible. However, I would probably try anyway just cause I watch my sodium closely, but that's just me.

I've wondered about this as well, as a rule, I count all of the ingredients in my marinade. I figure it's best if I over-report calories than under-report.

Yeah I stopped worrying about sodium. So I'm not too worried.
