Just changed my goals...

I am currently 147- and trying to get to 133. I have been on MFP since March, and gotten down to 142 and felt great, but my weight has crept back up to 147 in the last couple weeks. I've been slacking and I take full responsibility. I have been under a huge amount of stress, and have some blood sugar issues and/or intolerance/allregy issues that have really flared up recently that are having a pretty big effect on my eating. I am scheduled to go to the doctor in a little less than 2 weeks and can't wait to find out what's wrong, and how to fix it. However, it's my own fault I've gained weight back- there are going to be stressful times in life, and times where I may not feel my best and it's no excuse

Anyhow, I had my goals set to lose 1 lb/week and it had me eating 1270 calories a day. But, the BMR calculator is 1453/day). I run about 3 miles 3 days a week, and also do 1 or 2 classes at the gym (Yoga, Spinning, etc.) I figured that since I've been struggling now- have been on MFP for 7 months and overall am only down 5 pounds:ohwell: , I'd change my goal to make it 1/2 lb per week and see if that's more manageable for me.

I've always heard that the closer you are to your goal, the more difficult it is, and that it's best to lose weight slowly and consistently. What do you all think- sound like a good move on my part (at least until I see the doctor and find out what's going on as far as blood sugar and/or intolerance/allergies go)? Thanks for your feedback :flowerforyou:

  • it deffinitly does get harder and i'm considering changing my goals too. moving your goal to a half pound a week will help you feel like you acomplish something when you do meet it and not depressed when you dont get the whole pound. It might also be a good idea to switch up your routine also, like change up your fitness regime or try new food things. I work at a gym so there is alot of pressure on us to be fit and everyone i talk to says DO NOT EAT AFTER 6PM. which, as a student and a couch potatoe that likes to snack this is a struggle but i think i'm going to try it. The idea is that your body repairs itself while you sleep instead of trying to digest food. The biggest thing is to not give up! i'm right there with you with the frustration part....but we can totally do this :)

I did the exact same thing Kelynn, after getting closer to my goal weight I am feeling hungry all the time! It was stressing me out so bad I decided to lower my goal to 1/2 pound a week. That way, if I lost a whole pound, great, but if not, I am still meeting my goal. Its better to feel satisfied with your lifestyle than set unrealistic goals that make everyday life feel stressful. Good for you for putting yourself first, we don't have to be speed demons to achieve our goals, slow, steady, and sustainable, that's my new motto!

I've been considering switching to 1/2 pound a week too. We're so close to our goal weight that our bodies do not want to let go of their "safety" pounds! I've been at a plateau for about 5 weeks!

So I say try it! If what you are doing right now is not working than it can't hurt to try something new. And maybe I'll take my own advice and join you!

Sounds good- it's actually a little bit relieving, in an odd way, to find out that I'm not the only one struggling :blushing: Not that I want you guys to have a difficult time, but you know what I mean I hope

Good luck to you. I'm on my last 10 and it's been very slow and discouraging. Keep at it!

Thank you. I feel like I've almost "erased" everything I've done here. I know I'm eating much better, generally speaking, than I was a year ago, but the scale isn't different enough to make it "worth it" but I'm keeping at it... I'm hoping that once I see the doctor I'll feel better because I'll know what is wrong and how to live/deal with it. Things can only go up from here!
