Help! I ruined my Kale Chips... any advice for next time?

Ok, so I know Kale chips are supposed to be super easy, but I'm not the greatest cook and I messed mine up--they were truly awful and tasted like burnt leaves. I tossed the leaves with extra-virgin olive oil, sprinkled with salt, and baked at 500 degrees for 5 minutes...this was what I found on Pinterest for a recipe.
Is that too hot?? Should they be completely green when done, or have a little brown on the edges?? Any help or advice would be appreciated. I'm hoping to try again tomorrow :flowerforyou:

I bake mine at 300 degrees, also keep in mind they shrink quite a bit so make sure you use less seasoning than you normally would. Keep checking them too, I taste mine as I go, right out of the oven. That way I know what they will be like. You kinda have to hover over them. 10-20min usually does it. The edges should crumble when you roll them in your fingers, but not really be very brown0

I just made some tonight ::yummy::!
I had good luck with 425 degrees for about 7 minutes but still watch them closely as it's a fine line between crispy and burnt!
Good luck!0 -
I've never made them, but 500 is really hot... almost broil setting.
Try what the other poster said and turn your oven to 300 - you could always bake them a bit longer if they aren't quite done.0 -
350 for 10 mins is a good rule of thumb. Check them often as stated above. The amount of moisture in kale varies pant to plant. Good luck, you can do this!0

I do mine at 225F. They take longer, but burning isn't an issue.0

I do mine at 350 for 15ish minutes and they always turn out great
They shouldn't be brown, but like a dark green.0 -
I think 500 is way too hot! I do spinach chips at 300 for 15ish minutes.0
