Eating/Exercise

How long should I wait after eating to exercise? I mostly exercise in the morning before having my breakfast, but I would also like to start exercising after lunch, but I don't want to make myself sick. Any thoughts, anyone ??

i eat at 6:30 a.m. and i am at the gym by 8:00. i have never been sick from working-out that soon after a meal. i think each person is different. my husband eats lunch directly before he works-out (eats on his way to the gym) and it doesn't bother him at all. personally i would stay away from ab crunches if you've just eaten. Thanks, I guess this is still new to me and I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. I don't want to make myself sick, but I also haven't tried exercising right after eating either.0

I eat steel cut oats half an hour before I work out in the morning and I'm fine. But once I had a smoothie, did yoga and got sick. I guess it depends what your doing when you work out. It does say not to do yoga right after you eat. Of course I had to test it for myself.0

I read somewhere that if you eat a large meal, it's best to wait 2 hours before you exercise.
But if it's just lunch or breakfast really depends on how big your meal was.
I rarely work out in the mornings as I'm just too hungry, but I usually tend to have a small snack such as a handful of nuts or a small piece of fruit before workout or else I have no energy what so ever. I then work out after 15 mins and then, have a proper breakfast between half an hour and an hour after I've exercised.
If it's after lunch exercising, work out after about an hour and a half after eating.
They are just suggestions of course, so do what you feel comfortable with.0 -
I work out as soon as I get home from work and before I eat supper, but I make sure that I eat an apple or a banana 30-60 minutes beforehand to give me some fuel. Working out after a full meal makes me feel sluggish and pukey regardless of what I've eaten.0

I have been known to eat lunch while on the treadmill. Ideally, if you are concerned with nutrient timing, 30 minutes to an hour is sufficient. If you are worried about nausea from eating, you may need 1-2 hours. If you are like me and have a stomach that is virtually indestructible, then you can eat whenever and be fine.0

IMO this is kind of a judgement call. Obviously working out on a full stomach will be uncomfortable. Or putting your stomach in weird positions right after you just filled it with a bunch of things like protein, chia seed, flax seeds, or some sort of pre-work out shake.
Personally I like to work out on an empty stomach because it requires my body to tap into my Fat reserves for energy. This is very tiresome approach though. Also you might want to consider the old don't swim with in an hour of eating saying.
If you are starving (we're Americans so that is figurative) and can't wait to eat I'd say eat light and something high in carbs for energy. Personally I have just started drinking Nitric Oxide (N.O.) as a pre work out supplement for energy, but I still wait 20-40 minutes before hitting the weights.
Ultimately you need to do what feels right to you. I hope this helps some one in some way.0
