Hi All,

I'm relatively new to MFP, but not to losing weight, I've been TRYING to do that for as long as I can remember.

I've been trying to keep to the calorie limit as specified and have done most of the time.
My weight loss thus far has been quite slow, compared to when I've dieted in the past.

Admittedly I've had a couple of FOOTBALL (viewing) related lapses and I've been doing ONLY Cardio, no strength training

My questions are :

Are there specific kinds of food I should be eating, or avoiding to assist the weight loss rather than JUST looking at calories?
Are there any foods to avoid in the evening, e.g. High Carbs

Thanks in advance,

Loozin

p.s. I don't eat Meat but do eat Fish & Seafood

try to stick to whole/natural foods. for instance, brown rice is a great carb. cinnamon rolls are not  w/ fats, you should focus on good fats (olive oil, nuts, fish) rather than bad (red meat, pork, etc). try to get a higher balance of protein:carbs, more fiber (from vegetables and fruit). the less processed foods you eat, the easier every else naturally becomes. and definitely try to get in some weight/resistance training. even if it's only wearing ankle/wrist weights while you do the cardio, it'll help build muscle, and muscle burns more calories.

also, what time of day you eat carbs is really irrelevant from a weight loss perspective. all those things about "don't eat after 5", etc... are just myths (although for some who are not actively counting calories, stopping at a given time means they'll eat less). from a personal perspective, some people feel better if they only eat certain things at certain times. for myself, i am very sensitive to sugar, and having some means i'll crave more. so if i'm going to have something sweet, i'll ONLY have it at night, so my body can process it and experience that high/crash cycle while i'm sleeping, avoiding cravings altogether.

If you stick to lean grass fed meats, wild fish, lots of dark green veggies, a little fruit, and stick to your calorie limit, you will lose weight. Cut out all sugar and carbs from grains, your body will get the fiber from the veggies. It's a lifestyle not a diet. Check out the Primal Blueprint and Dr. Mercola online for some great resources, recipes and exercise instructions. Read all you can about how the body works and how it processes calories, it does make a difference. Ankle weights not recommended when doing cardio, they will hurt your joints. I've lost 23 pounds so far this year from calorie counting, it does work but the types of calories is very important. Believe in yourself and love You!
