so last year my doc told me get the weight off you are now diabetic. I jumped in my walking shoes and cleaned up my eating. was able to lose 56 pounds. slowly I started eating things again and now I have gained back 20 pounds. I refuse to be this weight again, I feel like the little train " i think i can" but so hate myself for havingto start over! anyone else here in the same boat?

I think it's safe to say that most of the people here have lost weight before and gained it all back! Don't hate yourself, you're definitely not alone.
Personally, I'm slowly chugging away, and am mentally preparing myself to CONTINUE logging my foods for a long, long time after I have reached my goal weight. I think this might be the only way for me to actually KEEP the weight off!0 -
with diabetes, you have to be even more careful than most about what you put back into your diet. it's all about the sugar, so i would suggest taking this approach: go back to your original weight loss diet to lose the weight you've regained. then add back only one thing at a time (ie potatoes, pasta, fruits, etc). give each thing at least a couple of weeks to see what effect it has on both your weight and how you feel (does it cause cravings?). also, what effect does it have on your daily blood sugar? this will give you a better idea of what you can or can't eat to keep the weight off.0

I've been on that same boat, lost 30 and gained back 20. I'm Type 1 Diabetic and my doctor has yelled at me for years to lose weight. I was disgusted with myself and started to take control; I've lost the 20 I gained and lost an additional 16 lbs (I'm at the lowest I've been since I was a kid); this time I've stuck to it because I remember how great I am feeling now and how disgusting I felt back then. Don't feel you've wasted all that time, just get right back to it and remember what you did to make that mistake. When you feel you are falling off the wagon, re-evaluate what you are doing or how you are feeling and re-track (I've been there many times and just tell myself to get right back on). I'm going to see my endocronologist soon and there will be some big, positive changes (I hope!). Best of luck, and if you need encouragement feel free to add me as a friend0

I found this - it's free. Hope this helps, gives you a menu each day- includes a grocery shopping list each week. I just started (day 6) and like it. The meals are good (some things I'd eat anyway) and not hard to prepare

I was slim all the way into my 30's then put on getting on for 50lbs over a couple of years. I lost it, maintained it for a couple of years and then it all crept back on. So here I am, second time around! Please don't hate yourself - just accept that you lost your way for a while. WHEN I lose the weight again I'll be sticking around and continuing to log, taking my eye off the ball was where I went wrong the last time and I'm hugely encouraged by the number of people I see on here in maintenance.0

Yes, I'm in the same boat as you. I have insulin resistance. Did really well for a while then started sneaking in some sweets like cookies and ice cream. Once I got a taste of the "good stuff" I just craved it more and more. So I started eating it more and more and before I knew it was back up on my weight. What works best for me is simply abstaining from all the junk. It's the only thing that prevents the cravings that I can't control. Good luck.0

Experiment and see what your baseline is. I am IR (insulin resistant) rather than Diabetic, and I'm finding that my caloric baseline is 1800 rather than 2200 or 2400, which means I will nead to 'reset' my maintenance mindset once I get to that point. It's all a learning curve. You'll get there.0

I know exactly where you are coming from. About 4 and a half years ago I also was diagnosed with diabetes. The first thing I did was decided to lose weight. I ended up losing 45 pounds but I really didn't do it the healthy way. I thought I was cause I was exercising and eating 3 meals a day and sometimes a snack but I guess I wasn't eating nearly enough with the exercise I was doing. I felt light- headed when I stood up and sometimes would pass out. Needless to say I may have been thin but I looked terrible. I agreed to put 10 lbs back on but decided to quit smoking and ended up putting 24 of the 45 lbs back on that I had lost.
Since joining MVP I have managed to lose 12 lbs. Only 2 more to go but this time I am doing it healthier and I feel much better. Don't get discouraged. You can do this. Feel free to add me as a friend for encouragement. I should also say that the last time I had my blood work done I was at a non-diabetic level so it is so worth it in the end.0 -
I was diagnosed with diabetes as well & put on meds ...... and was able to get off them when I lost weight & the numbers went down ...... will always have to be cautious ...... and yes, sometimes I rebel ....... but I don't want to wind up like my husband ...... he's a diabetic who thinks he's above all the rules ....... and has a shelf full of medications to show for it .......
