I start my walking tomorrow. I wanted to start a while back but injured my foot somehow. It is now healed. I have my new shoes and am ready. I plan to do 3 days at first. I am in terrible shape so I am not sure I will make it very far at first. Any advice or tips would be very welcomed here. As would new friends to encourage me along the way.
Thanks!

I always start tomorrow! Good shoes, good tunes. If it's uncomfortable, suck it up. If it hurts, stop.

Honestly, my best silly advice would be go today. Just put on the new shoes, go outside, say. "Wow, today is an awesome day." and just walk a bit. Don't push it, don't strain yourself, don't even consider it exercise, just get up, right now, go outside and walk. That's how I started mine.

Welcome-you can do this. Just start out slowly, doing what you can. Try to walk every day if possible but a minimum of 3 days per week. Build up to longer walks. My hubby dropped 40+ pounds just walking and cutting back what he ate. I was diagnoses as pre-diabetic & was able to get it under control just by walking and watchign what i eat.
I try to get out at least 3 days per week due to work schedule issues. I find that if I get up early & go out by say 6 am, it works out better for me. I get it out the way and done. When I can't get out in the mornings, I find every excuse not to go later in the day or in the evenings. I'm still a wowrk in progress as I have not lost much weight but at least I'm doing something that is helathy. Also, if you are unable to get out, look into Leslie Sansone walking tapes-you can do htem at home in front of the TV. Check out Collagevideo.com and you can preview the exercise tapes they sell. You can usually get the Leslie Sansone tapes at Target and Walmart if you have any close to you. Good luck to you!

Hi! I absolutely loved my walking plan when I started it a few years ago. Since I was really limited to a simple horse track and some side streets, I made the best of it and just kept walking around it again and again. It was nice to just get out and enjoy the fresh air. I'm sure you will love it!

    Hi!
I injured my ankle a while ago and recently start to exercise slowly again.. I too am walking!
I use Leslie Sansone DVDs which I really like. I find having a good pair of shoes plus listening to my
body really important;can't risk another injury..best of luck to you, I know you'll do great!

To borrow a cliche - "Just do it". Don't wait until tomorrow. I have a Fitbit that keeps track of my daily steps and I strive for a goal of 10,000 steps daily. Most days I make it sometimes I don't, I've lost a dress size walking. Same weight for a month, so I'll take that NSV!

On rainy days I use my Leslie Sansone DVD. You can do it. A few minutes several times a day will make a world of difference.

    Hello!

That is great that you're making an effort to actively shed the lbs an get in shape! Walking is EXCELLENT exercise and great for your health. I would recommend to try for a walk everyday, but don't punish yourself if you don't get out that often. Even a 20 min walk everyday can have a surprising effect on your body. You'll probably find that you feel really good after a nice long walk, and you should! It's my favorite exercise, actually it's really my only exercise, and it works!

Stick with it and good luck!

Like all the other posters, walking is great! Even a 5 or 10 min. walk is better than none, just remember you are still lapping everyone on the couch! That being said, and all the other great advice that the others have already given...the only suggest I have is to find a pretty park, path, etc. (if that's available) to do your walking in (I'm lucky and have a beach). It will make it more pleasant, add a distraction (flowers, birds, scenery) and really boost your overall sense of well being and contentment!:flowerforyou:

Thank you all for the tips/advice/etc! I say tomorrow because it will be 'intentional" walking that I plan to track. I usually don't track my usual activities though I hear that should count. Today has been filled with other tasks and running about. In fact I am about to head out the door again to go have dinner with my Momma! Again, thanks for the input! Hope you all are having a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!

That's what I did, I just went out and got with it!!!!!!!!! because it would seem as if "tomorrow never comes" if you wait.......for me anyway  Just DO it ~ good luck!

I started yesterday with my 20 minute walk. Not as much as I'd hoped but it is a start.
    Thanks again for the tips/advice.

If u enjoy walking you can also get some of Leslie Sansones dvds which are walking inside so that on days that the weather doesn't cooperate. most of the weight i have lost has been thru these and watching what i eat. i love getting outside to walk but with little ones its hard sometimes and these are a great alternative. 1 mile only takes 15 minutes. good luck
