Using your own weight?

So strength training is essential in weght loss...insteD of using weights, is using your own body weight the same thing? Will that work as well?

    works perfectly,
    push up ,pull up ,body squats and planks are all great for toning up .you wont get the same work out as weights but will help

    i am confused. the same as what? Of course it's not the same--there's no ADDITIONAL weight in a body weight squat--a squat with weight is using your body weight AND additional weight. In terms of hypertrophy and strength you'll get more benefit from using weights.That's not to say there's no benefit because it is still beneficial but it is NOT the same.
