I haven't seen this but, have been told about it. I don't watch a lot of movies, but I'll start looking for this one.

On a similar subject, I was lifting weights yesterday and had the radio on. A commercial come on for some colassal burger at some FF chain. The guys in the commercial were exclaiming how "huge" the burger was.

As I'm sitting there with burning muscles and sweat pouring down my face my only thought is that burger can only get you "huge" in all the wrong ways.

Oh my gosh! Same here! My husband and I were up early one Saturday and were watching it. Half way through I said "I'm hungry" and almost in unison, we looked at each other and said "McDonald's breakfast!" How demented is that?!

I should watch it again (post-life style turnaround) and see how I react.

there are so many factors, which is why it is such a problem. that is a huge one, psychologically we are all really messed up. i find i fall off the wagon once i start doing well, i have this inclination, it is very subtle, but i often look at my stomach in the washroom cognitively aware of this, and think 'ive done good, i have nothing to worry about' and then the days of bad eating start adding up. as well with the knowing it is bad for us makes it a treat.

    The addiction is not psychological................

They add sugar to just about everything, even the meat. Then all of the preservatives and chemicals that are in the food make for a physical addiction, not psychological at all.

I agree with that to a certain extent....but what if u dont crave sugar??...I crave sodium lol.....(not trying to cause an arguement) I've just never been one for sweets...I like fatty salty foods like fries and chicken skin or even greasy burgers loarded with mayo and cheese and everything bad for u

Maybe they use a type of MSG, whisch is sodium and it is just as addictive as sugar. A lot of people are allergic to MSG. Something to think about.............

I only get cravings for salty, sugary foods when it TOM or when I am super stressed. Now that I am low carbing and keeping my fat intake pretty high, I don't get those cravings as bad, but sometimes the smell of something will make me want something like that........

I eat chicken skin all the time and home made mayo on my cheeseburgers. Those fats are not as bad for you as they have tried to make them out to be.

verrrry true!!....Thats a good point with the MSG....:flowerforyou: i'm doing the low carb eating (aside from fresh produce carbs) until i reach my goal weight then im going to slowly incorporate them back in....very slowly lol
and I still eat my fatty foods....just healthier fatty foods but i have to stay away from the chicken skin lol.. i used to roast a whole chicken and just eat the skin  no thats not realy a laughing matter but it is (and i really used to do that lmao)

lioness, im a professional psych student that gets nothing but good grades. also, my career so far as a professional student since ive been in postsecondary for 6 years now has taught me to think critically.

:explode: there are several factors.:explode: <-that is important! thus i put the little bomb heads there lol

as i stated before, and will state again. ultimately, i believe we are reduced down to our psychology. and just so you know, addiction is a LARGE aspect of neuropsych! whether that be msg, whatever. psychology has sooooo many facets, including the political.

as does food, and bad food for us.

but btw, its nice to see youre still on these boards, i disappeared for a bit

I still get a bit hungry at the smell of McD's fries, BUT then I remember something. This was pulled from the "Fast Food Nation" piece by Eric Schlosser...

McD's fries are garbage fried in crappy vegetable oil...but originally they were higher quality potatoes fried in beef tallow. To maintain the original delicious flavor of the tallow fries, McD's adds a flavorant and salt to the fries. Fake crap, delicious taste, stomach pain later.

And there you go. Craving 101.

This is meant in the nicest way :flowerforyou: .

Isn't this the thinking of someone who is or was on a diet? Not a lifestyle change.
I've done good, nothing to worry about, so go ahead and eat all the bad food that got you that heavy in the first place? (revolving door, yo yo dieting etc)
I had a bacon cheeseburger with extra pickles and a large fries with mchicken sauce yesterday. i felt like the guy after his first supersized meal. slowly stuffing each fry in my mouth. the burgers are bad for you i know, but they aren't that bad. omg, after each fry. almost....died!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol. thats why im detoxing today and back on the wagon, i was outta control!

Is it the addiction that orders the greasy bacon, cheese, burger (with who knows what kind of meat), and LARGE fries.
You said "the burgers are bad for you I know, but they aren't that bad"
They aren't that bad compared to what??

Then you say after EACH FRY you almost died.
Is it the addiction that makes us stuff the french fries in our mouths even though we are already full.

One of the things most people have learned on here is that with fast food,( your example - bacon/cheese/buger/lrg fries" is probably almost 1000 calories. with tons of fat.

How can people forget and dismiss this information.

Foods that taste good, make us feel good...at least temporarily, so why wouldn't we be addicted to them? It's easy to get addicted to anything that makes us feel good- psychologically speaking. You know the physical addiction has kicked in when you can't break the habit once it no longer makes you feel good, but you do it anyway.

    because we are human!

and when i said the bacon cheeseburger is bad but not that bad. i meant, bad nutritionally, not calorically.

This kind of ties into the addiction discussion. The Ads for these places are really well done and targeted to certain markets for a reason.

The Commercial I heard was a couple of guys being Guy's Guys. It was effective because I actually LISTENED to the commercial instead of dismissing it as background noise. The old Ipo19 would have finsihed the set, jumped in the car, and went and got a Collassal Burger. Because I "desereved" it for just working out. It just pissed the New Ipo19 off because it was insulting my intelligence that tells me you can't out excersise a garbage diet.

I can tell how far my emotional maturity has come in a year. This evening my schedule is dictating that I eat out some where. But I'm having a hard time coming up with something that sounds good, that will help me get to where I want to be. So I'm thinking about just going w/o until I get home, but I'm not sure my two year old son will put up with that.

I agree, some of these places the advertising, the marketing, some of them do a good job.

Where are you going to eat out? restaurant? take out? Subway is ok.
There are choices that can be made and asked for something cooked/made "how you want it".

I know there's good stuff to order. Just nothing sounds good tonight. I'm actually going to eat dinner at a freinds house "listen" to the NLCS and trouble shoot a car that's dropping a cylinder when it rains.

I get the southwest chicken salad and use the dressing. It has a ton of flavor and not a lot of calories. Make the right dressing choices when at McD's and you will be good. Ranch though is a no-no... :noway:
