If by "Popular" you mean current, I can't think of one.

If by "Popular" you mean favorite song of all time, it would be "I'd Rather Be Blind" by Chicken Shack. Sung by Christine Perfect.

Something told me it was over
When I saw you and her talking.
Something deep down in my soul said cry girl,
When I saw you and that girl walking.

    I would rather,
I would rather go blind, boy,
Than to see you walk away from me, child.
So you see, I love you so much
That I don't wanna watch you leave me, baby.
Most of all I just don't,
I just don't want to be free, no.

I was just, I was just,
I was just sitting here thinking
Of your kiss and your warm embrace,
When the reflection in the glass that I held to my lips, baby
Revealed the tears that was on my face.

    And
Baby, Baby, I'd rather be blind, boy,
Than to see you walk away from me.

nice thread :-) most of them!

Justin Beiber's new one, Starships by Nicki Minaj, Call me maybe, anything by Adele or Florence + the machine, little talks by monsters & men, I just love music.

ETA: Beyonce's love on top - definitely have to blast that one along with Kelly Clarkson's new one.

I too like "Call me maybe", and that song "Heartbroken" I think by a girl or group named Carmen. I LOVE and can't stop listening to Katy Perry's "Wide Awake". I had it before she released it, so I was so excited when I heard it on the radio last week. I literally have it on repeat on my phone and drained my battery listening to it.

Well, I don't *love* it, but I don't think Boyfriend is half as bad as many others evidently think. The lyrics/sentiment don't do anything for me, but in terms of basic sound, it's ok... Basically the same as when Justin Timberlake 'grew up.'

I love this song too, but haven't heard it on the radio yet. I've only heard a little clip so far.

This was going to be my answer too! I love that song. Now I know why. I never made the association with the Police but you are right. Very similar.

This post makes me want to kill myself. Unless, that is, you are a 12 year old girl.

There is no talent in "popular" music anymore. Producer's find someone with a specific "look" who can barely carry a tune and use computer effects and autotune to create that person's sound. I would rather listen to any music from the 50-80's or poke my eyes out if I had to listen to 'pop' music.

Why does other peoples opinion on music make you want to kill yourself? Really need to lighten up....cause I highly doubt it actually makes you want to kill yourself.

I could care less about other people's taste in music, IF what they actually lister to IS music. Adele and Florence have talent, I will give them that. But Minaj and Beiber aren't musicians. It's not MUSIC, it's sound effects created from voice correction software.
People are paying $50--$100 for a concert ticket to listen to a recording and watch a person dance, not see a LIVE performance. Those same people are killing the real talented musicians trying to make it in the competitive industry by supporting talentless entrepenuers rather than talented muscians.

Most inportantly, "Stunning looks, beneficial connections and simple, relatable lyrics about child-like puppy love are now favored over musicians with raw, undisputable talent. Anyone can run their voice through Autotune and produce flawless music; therefore, record companies are more inclined to invest money on a face they know will sell rather than to take a risk on a powerful voice with a less-defined jaw line or less-than-perfect hair." And we wonder why our children have body imagine issues. Unattractive people used to be recognized for their abilities, by supporting these "pop' artists and buying their music, you are supporting an industry that teaches looks/image come before personal qualities.

It makes me incredibly sad that people support and encourage let alone enjoy this...

I think that's been true pretty much forever in the music industry, really. Maybe it's a little more blatant now than in the past, but it's nothing new.

On the flip side, musicians with 'raw, undisputed talent' are now able to drum up a fan base by sharing their music online... and once they do that, since record labels truly enjoy investing in artists they know they'll get a return on, they will get picked up. ...And then they'll be prettied up, airbrushed and managed, but that's a whole different thing.
