I've tried 2 webites this morning to work out changing stones into pounds but have got 2 totally different answers :-/

use a calculator. There are 14 pounds in a stone.
Usually weights are expressed as stones and pounds - for example 12 stone 3. That is not 12.3 stones, which is where you probably went wrong.
12 stone 3 is 12 * 14 + 3 = 171 pounds0 -
