I'm always having a hard time keeping my carbs down, with me being vegetarian, not liking eggs, cheese, yogurt, tofu ect.

This is what my day looks like today:

B (280 cals, 42 carbs) - 1 scoop protein powder
1 instant oatmeal
1 cup apple sauce

L (326 cals, 49 carbs) - 1/2 pepper
1 piece whole wheat toast, with 1.5 tbsp peanut butter
3/4 cup baby carrots

D ( 483 cals, 100 carbs) - 1 cup brown rice with 1/2 cup veggies and 1/2 tbsp soya sauce
1 apple
1/2 banana
1 cup chocolate milk

Snack ( 133 cals, 14 carbs) - tea with milk
100 cal ice cream bar

Total: 1,222 cals
205 carbs

Any bread/rice i have is whole wheat...and the oatmeal is 100% whole grains. So since my carbs are 'good' is it ok to be over? This is before exercise btw...but my days are like this when i don't exercise to

You've got to realize that you have to have a certain ratio percentage. You could change the ratio if you want to. Also, where are you getting your protein from other than powder and pb?
My ratios are: 165 grams carbs, 33 grams fat, and 60 grams protein.

Actually she does...just not that much. the powder and the pb both have quite large amounts considering that she's a vegetarian (as I am as well).

she has protein, protein powder, rice, oatmeal all have protein in them.

BUT girl, I'll say a few things. First, for the vegitarian, beans, almonds, and avocados should be your best friend! You should definitely try to add some of those to your diet. Also, chick peas and/or hummus should be in there almost every day. What about peanuts, kidney beans, quinoa, green leafy veggies. Don't be afraid of higher calorie foods, and/or high fat foods. These foods can help keep you full in a healthy, non-carb centric way.

Do you have your display set up to show you the total Fiber?

In another thread here, someone mentioned that you can subtract your total fiber from the total carbs for a more accurate number.

Once I started doing that, I realized I was not as over my carbs as much as I thought I was!

I am also a vegetarian and I know how hard it is to keep it all in balance. Good luck!

Lower your sugars (read food labels) and drink 2-3 liters of water a day. It washes through your system and takes fat with it. Does wonders for your skin too.

I try to eat beans, but they get boring after a while and sometimes i'll snack on some almonds. i don't like avocados, hummus or chick peas ( this could explain why my childs so picky to lol!)

i'm not so worried about my cals as i am carbs because i seem to always be way over on carbs if i'm meeting my cal goals. i can easily stay under my carbs....but then i'm way way under cals. UGH

What about no apple sauce in the am and add almond butter to your oatmeal w/the protein powder? Also, have you ever tried the brand MorningStar Farms? I don't eat meat or seafood so I used to live on this brand. Kinda like Boca Burger brand, but I think Boca burgers are nasty. You could top a morningstar farm "burger" with these veggie slices that are kinda like a "fake cheese". They are "cheese slices" made of veggies. Even my meat & potato husband likes them. We get them at kroger. They have no carbs & 3g protein. Without really liking beans...that's tough!!

Well, I don't know what to tell you. You don't eat meat, you don't like eggs, cheese, yogurt, avocados, hummus. You get bored with beans... I mean, at some point you're probably just going to have to do some research and find things you DO like that aren't carbs. If there's one thing there's no shortage of on this planet, it's different types of foods. There are lots of good programs out there that are low carb, you can go to epicurious.com and click on the Healthy recipes section for ideas.

    Tara,
You have got to find some other sources of protein. Read Skinny B*tch for some ideas. Being a vegetarian can be a difficult thing if you limit what you eat. At least try one new food a week...if you don't like...that's fine try it again in another month or so. I've been a vegetarian my entire life and it's been a struggle as no one else I know lives the lifestyle that I live (even my hubby and daughter).
Not to scare you or anything but if you become protein deficient your hair will begin to fall out, nails will split easily, you'll become anemic (being a woman increases this as we get a lovely little present every month), you'll be more tired than usual, your muscle mass will decrease, and have delayed healing of wounds.
You need to try. Have you eaten soy beans before? I noticed you mentioned tofu...there are hundreds o ways to prepare it...try a few. Just because you don't like it one way doesn't mean that you won't enjoy it prepared differently. Here are a few sites that I like...

i'm getting 57g of protein a day, mfp recommended me less then that, but i upped it to 20%...so now it recommends 62g so i'm only off by 5 from me upping it. I'm not really worried about my protein because although i'm not getting a lot of variety i'm getting it from the protein powder, peanut butter, oatmeal, rice, chocolate milk.

and i am anemic, i've been taking iron pills for as long as i can remember.

i'll check out those links though, because i'm willing to try new things and if i can find a way to make tofu that i'd like i'd be all for that!
