I've been doing Jillian Michaels 30ds dvd for a week, and I've been getting pain running up the inside of my legs from my ankle bone. However it's been little enough to push through and it recovers within 10-15 minutes of stopping.

Tonight I went for a 30 minute interval jog/walk (I know, I'm not very fit yet!) and the pain is excruciating - I can barely stand and even resting it doesn't fade. It's also run around my right leg, up the outside and into my knee as well.

What the hell have I done??

Advice would be welcomed from people who know about such things!

There are a couple of things you can do.

    1. Take the week off from your training and allow your body to heal.
    2. Ice your ankle. For 20 minutes at a time.3-4 times a day.
    3. The shoes you exercise in could be worn out. Many times people think because they are still ok looking on the outside that the shoe is good. But the material in the interior of the sole could be broken down. My wife had a similar problem and I took her and bought real running shoes. I fitted her into a stability shoe because she has moderate over pronation and made sure that they were fitting properly and now her pain has gone away. Just because a shoe feels soft and comfortable doesn't mean it is the correct type for you.

Many thanks for the advice; I'll head to my local friendly running shop on Saturday! My trainers are pretty old and well-loved...

Sports Medicine Doctors know about such things. If rest and ice doesn't seem to help, go see one! :-)
