Is it still okay to eat something unhealthy if it is within all of your limits for the day (carbs, salt, sugar, protein etc)?

As a registered dietitian, I would say yes- but only in moderate amounts, once in a while. There are many benefits to making half your plate fruits and vegetables, 1/4 protein and 1/4 whole grains. These benefits extend beyond weight loss and include the prevention of heart disease and cancer. Treats can fit into a healthy diet, but it is important to get enough fiber and vitamins from healthy food to keep you full and feeling your best. Aim to get your treats from wholesome products like full-fat ice cream (which has calcium) or dark chocolate (which has antioxidants) as opposed to soda (which has 0 health benefits). Good luck!0

You could eat twinkies all day every day and still lose weight as long as they fit into your macros/calories.0

This is just about the most rational and useful thing I've read on MFP in a year and a half.

While you can eat unhealthy sometimes, it's not good to do this all the time. The key to eating well is a lifestyle change. Overall, if your food consumption looks good, then I see no problem eating something "bad" once in awhile. I eat something I shouldn't probably once a week and don't see it affecting me at all.0

But have no teeth and risk losing muscle mass and over all reducing your BMR a little...0
