Question HRM

I keep seeing references to HRM. Can someone tell me what this means? What are people referring to when they say they used HRM or got HRM and excited to use it. Just wondering.

    A heart rate monitor. Used to track your heart rate and tells you how many calories you burned.

    Edit: Some have GPS and track how far and fast you run, and most are water-proof
