I'm just curious about what kind of HRM everyone is using? I do not have one yet but would love to invest in one. I would like something good quality and easy to use, and affordable. I do not know prices but I'm thinking maybe $50? Please excuse my ignorance if this is to low or high. Thanks!

I just got the Polar FT40 from heartratemonitorsusa.com I used the 5% off code STAR I believe (saved $5.50) and 2nd day shipping is only $5.95 so it was like an upgrade in shipping for $0.45. My total was $110.40 and they normally run about $180

I usually start mine when I step on the treadmill for my warm up and I turn it off when I'm done working out and my HR has dropped to 130, but not more than about 5 minutes if it still hasn't dropped yet.

I turn it off when my workout is done. Sometimes, like when I do a video, that means I don't stop it until after the cool down. But when I'm on the elliptical, I stop it as soon as I hit the "stop" button.

I think it's up to you. I don't think it matters so long as you remember that if you spend 10 minutes cooling down and count those calories burned, you also have to subtract what you'd burn during those 10 minutes at your resting heart rate.

When I'm in the gym, I keep mine running through the cool down and stretch, which usually lines up with the 100bpm that some use as a guideline. When I'm out for a walk/run, I might stop it when I'm doing some quick sight seeing...like this weekend, I did a 5k run then walked back around the park to the veterans memorial. When I got there, I stopped my HRM because although I was still moving, it was at a very slow pace and I was stopping often to take pictures. Once I headed back home, I started it back up and didn't stop it until I got home and stretched.
