Anyone know? I've tried to research online but am seeing both yes and no. I know there was a story out a little bit ago about how french pressed coffee has some chemicals/metals/something?? that is harmful and there is no filter to filter it out. Same with a K-cup, right? No filter? My husband wants one, but I'm not sure I want to purchase one if it is healthier to stick to a standard coffee maker with a filter.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Haven't heard anything about it. I'm sure the 3rd eye that has grown out of my forehead is nothing to be alarmed about....0
-
Never heard anything about either...sorry. My step dad and I use ours everyday and have been for over a year...still alive no issues0

And here I thought this was going to be about boobies:(

Well, K-cups do offer organic brands, so if this is a concern, maybe this is something you could go with? I love my Keurig machine. I got rid of my traditional coffeemaker for it, so I hope these rumors are untrue!

Never heard anything about this, and you can buy a refillable filter instead of buying the Kcups... we have done this and cut down on our coffee budget0 -
I've seen them do bad things to my husband. One time he drank the very last k-cup leaving me without one, and I had to smack him upside the head.0

Everything at some point or another has been or will be dangerous.
I heard wearing flip-flops will give you cancer.

I have a Keurig and love it, you can't beat it for convenience. My only concern is there may be bpa in the plastic brew cups or reservoir. I have not been able to find out anything about it.
I prefer using my glass french press, fantastic coffee and no plastic, but it's a bit of a hassle.0 -

Yep. Found mine on Amazon. Its a metal/mesh filter at the bottom of a reusable cup then you just use whatever coffee you want. There is one that you have to remove part of the brewer but that one is a pain and makes a mess.0 -

 That's awesome!
Imy Keurig. Use it daily. :drinker:

I use 2-3 a day between coffee and tea - no problems....
I would assume you may have heard a few different things...
1 - coffee in general - the pureists with coffee say to make sure your beans are organic non mold beans...I would venture to say most basic brands are your basic beans grown on farms - they can sit around which could lead to mold (which would get washed off). Unless you have $25+/ 1/2 lb to buy fancy coffee that was grown on the side of a jungle mountain under the care of little old ladies the coffee in K-cups is no different than just about any bag coffee you have at your local store, starbucks or dunkin donuts
2 - the machine itself - if one chooses not to clean it from time to time then bacteria could grow...but the same thing could be said about any basic coffee pot if it doesn't get cleaned on a daily/weekly basis...0 -
Personally I think they are better. Even the decafe versions. They use a water-water extraction for taking out caffeine instead of using the chemical DCM to extract like most other decafe versions. DCM is a very bad chemical solvent. I should test for metals in my lab to confirm.0

Not really sure what type of "filter" you are referring to, if you are just talking about a basic coffee filter K-Cups have one built in. My fiance has taken one apart before to answer this exact question, he was under the impression that it was just instant coffee while I had said I was sure it was brewed (needless to say, I won). We use ours daily and we love it! He has even given up going to the coffee shop every morning before work!0 -

I love, love, love my Keurig! It is one of the best things ever invented! I have not heard anything about it being dangerous and at this point I am so hooked, not sure I would even stop using it. Would really depend on what it is supposedly harming.0

A lot of heat-resistant plastics used to use BPA, which can leach out of the plastic with extended exposure to liquid (especially hot liquid).
- The liquid was probably not in contact with the plastic long enough to leach out any significant quantities of BPA.
- BPA is generally found to be not harmful in adults.
- It's pretty much not in use any more.
However, disposable plastic is disposable plastic. It's a relatively expensive way to make coffee, and there may be chemicals in the plastic, and you're throwing away a plastic K-cup each time. Your call on all of that.0 -
Well, if they're dangerous, I might be dead by now. I can't live without my Keurig!0

Obviously, very detrimental to your well being. See? Look, they incite violence! :laugh:0 -
Hmmmm. I wonder who funded that study...running coffe through a paper filter is better. Hmmmm. Nothing odd there at all. Makes perfect sense. ugh! Are you kidding me with this?0

I don't want to know if they are.....I am addicted to my Keurig!!0

Question
Do K-Cup® packs, Vue™ packs, or brewers contain BPA?
Answer
All K-Cup® packs, Vue™ packs, and all water path components of Keurig® home brewers are free of Bisphenol-A (BPA).
Although some parts of the Keurig Brewers do contain BPA, these do not come in contact with the water or grinds used to brew fresh coffee. Neither the cold water reservoirs nor the internal water pipeline contains BPA. For more information regarding the FDA’s pronouncement about BPA, visit: http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/PublicHealthFocus/default.htm.0 -
