Not sure what to log my gym class as

Trying out a new class today, and I've no idea what to log it for, calories wise. It's called 'Jab Kick Burn', and is described as a combination of martial arts and boxing with pad work and dancey moves. Any suggestions? Thanks x

Sounds like Les Mills' BodyCombat or TaeBo. Dunno if that's available on MFP.

If you have an HRM, you could calculate your own calories burned and create your own exercise so you know it's accurate? Otherwise, I'd personally probably break it up to get just a rough idea - if it's an hour long class I'd put boxing in for 15 minutes, martial arts for another 15 and dancing for another 15. As it's not ideal, I'd only log it for 45 minutes as I'd prefer to underestimate than overestimate. Sounds like a fun class! :)

I suggest "aerobics, general". I use this for different sorts of class. More gentle workouts go on as "Pilates" or "aerobics, low impact". If you slightly underestimate the calories burned you gain in the long run, so I reckon it's better to do that than to overestimate.

Out of interest, how do you do this?

Definitely get a HRM. Depending on the effort you put in, the calories on here could majorly underestimate your burn.
According to my HRM I burn around 2-3x more than the calories listed.

Does the HRM itself tell you how many calories you've burnt? I've got a HRM but it literally only does just that.
