Coconut Oil

My wife just asked me what I thought about cooking with coconut oil instead of the usual olive/sunflower etc.
She's heard somewhere that it's supposed to be a healthier option. I've got no idea tbh. Anyone else heard anything about this or has any information?

I'm also interested in the answer. I bought some for the flavor but I'd like to know if the health claims about it are really true.0

It's a great option! It's also amazing for your skin and hair, so if you don't end up liking how it tastes in your food you can use it as a lotion or leave-in conditioner.0

Here are some decent articles for your review. I am a big fan, I typically use it in my protein shakes in the morning, and use it when roasting vegetables of if I decide to pan fry food. Since using it on a regular basis I have to say I have notices a significant change in my digestive system, and I also believe it helps me to feel more satisfied. I highly recommend it!

Apparently, Dr. Oz just featured coconut oil and so I am guessing that is why I keep seeing a lot about it. Here is a link to some info on using coconut oil in your cooking. I use it for baking, mostly...medium to high heat is the appropriate use of this oil, I believe. All oils have temperature points that make them either great for frying (grapeseed and coconut oil) or great for eating raw/in a salad (olive oil).

It also has anti-bacterial properties...a great option as a skin moisturizer too. Gotta love being able to eat something you also apply to your skin :happy:0

I use coconut oil in everything, it's awesome! There's allot of great articles out there that explain the benefits of cooking with it.
Here's a video I watched when I was researching it. http://youtu.be/vOBuAe1IVRM0 -
I like it because it has a high heat tolerance. Much better than EVOO.0

Coconut oit is wonderful in baking and salad dressings. I love using coconut oil in making lower fat/sugar versions of cakes. It is so tasty in white n chocolate cakes. I use olive for low frying.0

I use coconut oil for my food, and on my skin! You can typically find the "refined" coconut oil at Walmart, and that kind doesn't taste like coconut oil at all. However, I buy both the refined and unrefined. Some food shouldn't taste like coconut LOL!
You can find several references to the health benefits of coconut oil online, and several books.0 -
