Super nervous...

I've been doing great for two and half weeks. I've been sticking to my calories and working out 6 days a week. Yesterday I simply didn't have the time to make it to the gym, I had a wedding reception to attend, and my friends and I ate out at Texas Roadhouse where I ate everything in sight. I weigh in on Saturday and I'm so nervous to see what yesterday may have done to me on the scale...it's awful to think one day could set me back.

Dont panic too much. You're on the right track. You may see a number you dont want on the scale this week, because you probably consumed alot of sodium. The good news is you can flush it out with alot of water. Remember that it takes roughly 3500 calories to gain/lose a pound....so unless you ate 3500+ calories, what you see on the scale is likely water retention.
Drink alot of water today and dont allow one slip or one weeks not so good weigh in to get to you mentally.
Good luck!0 -
You'll be ok - shake it off and move on. It's frustrating, I know. Hang in there.:flowerforyou:0

I hit Golden Corral every once in a while, and it's not so bad if you do it right. I just lean hard on the veggies, Feast on lean meats, nibble the carby stuff and really-really lightly nibble at the battered/fried stuff (which mostly doesn't taste good to me anyways). Then I screw it all up with a whole plate of desserts :blushing:
Don't sweat it. You gotta live,,, and I don't want to live in a world where I can never again eat bread pudding with whipped cream on top. I'd rather just be fat. Fortunately we don't have to make that choice - you can have that stuff. You just can't have it every day.
You're doing fine, don't sweat it. You'll gain back 1/4 pound of actual fat, you'll retain 2 pounds of water, you'll give your metab a healthy shock that will probably do you good, and in a week you'll be right back on target.0 -
I like to use those times as learning experiences. Think about what you would do differently next time, and next time you are in that situation, really stick to that plan. I had a similar experience last weekend. We went out to watch a football game, and I had dinner before we left (for an 8pm game) so I wouldn't eat anything at the restaurant. Halfway through the game I was so hungry and ended up eating a bunch of unhealthy nachos. Next time, I plan to look up the restaurant before I go, and plan a healthy snack or small meal that I can eat if I'm hungry. It was all a matter of preparation. Next time I will do better, and you will too!
We can do this!

I have been taught and have confirmed for myself that having the confidence to always "get back on track" is helpful in the long term. You might think that it would work against you by letting you think that it's okay to "slip up." But really, it comes into play at those moments when you are feeling low and mad at yourself. You CAN always get back on track. So, be HAPPY and "get back on track" and keep on going!0

What "Get back on track"? She didn't really get off track. She ate one big meal in 2 weeks... 1 hour of indulgence does not a lifestyle break.
It's fine, relax. Just don't do it all the time.0 -
Got to agree with Casper, just a bump in the road and your paving the road ahead.0

Casper...just had to say I loved the way you put several things in your posts...the this is life and I'm not going to live in such a restrictive world part. It IS life and sometimes in life, we eat more calories than others....its part of living.
Also the ... one hour does not a lifestyle break....thats priceless...
thank you!0 -
Agreed. Unless for you, realistically, you can say "I'm never going to go out to dinner and eat more than I need to ever again" then you're fine. Remember, this is a lifestyle change not a *diet* so as long as "bad" nights/meals are few and far between, you're fine... that's life.0

It is what it is Sunny, but thanks.
This isn't something we want to do for 7 months, 'til we reach some "goal weight" (an arbitrary number dreamed up one day while flirting with sugar coma and regret) - after which we'll go back to "normal". Normal is how we wound up huge in the first place, and we don't want to go back to that.
So what we're doing is training ourselves to a different lifestyle that we'll continue for,,, forever I guess. Jack LaLanne celebrated his 95th b'day with 95 pushups and 95 situps - so we should surely be able to stay healthy for a long time.
For that to work, it's got to be a lifestyle that we enjoy, that makes a life worth living. I couldn't enjoy my daily life knowing I'll never taste cheesecake again. That'd just suck. So,,, we need to be realistic, enjoy food and drink and love and life and etc. etc. etc.,,, and all with intelligence and moderation that will allow us to enjoy it again tomorrow, and the next day and so on.0 -

Sounds exactly like when I go to Golden Corral, Casper! :happy:0 -

I couldn't agree more.... we are hear learning moderation....not deprivation!0 -
I definitely think it isn't realistic to never have a big meal or "bad" food, but I think it's healthy to plan those times into the week. I have a free night once a week where I eat whatever I want for one meal. That's my time that I can get out all of those cravings without ruining the rest of my week. I also save calories for daily snacks, and if I want chocolate or candy, I have it - I just measure out my portion and count the calories. I just think it's good to have a plan for the times when you find yourself in a situation where you want to eat a ton, but it's just because of stress or temptation, and not because you really want the food.0

Thanks for the advice, Everyone. I know I shouldn't panic, it's just so good to finally see the weight coming off that I get paranoid about going back to my old ways. I'll try to calm down and relax. I know I'll end up messing up again, but hopefully not as bad or very often.0

I've been off track here and there for the past week. but no by huge amounts. So, you just gotta take it one day at a time. I try not to think that tomorrow I can't eat whatever I want when I want. Otherwise I panick and the next day all I want is food! But really it's all about one day at a time in my opinion.0

I think I'm getting the hang of this new style of eating healthier. When I eat out, I do the best I can, but I really like to eat, too.:ohwell:
That's just the way it is. I have to learn how to handle it.
So I plan ahead, work out, log every bite, drink loads of water before & after, & get right back to my plan as soon as I can.
:blushing: And then I rejoice because I'm never as bad as I used to be.
And I know I can get right back on track. I'm in charge now!0
