Ran my first 5k...

Thanks to the C25K program, after nine weeks of training I was able to run my 5K this last Saturday. My goal was to run the whole way and finish (hopefully not last!). I accomplished my goals and beat 2 women in my age group and 14 women over all, so I didn't finish last either! I'm still not sold on running, but I did set a goal and did it. Yippee!!

Great job! It just gets easier as the weight comes off. I'm not quite to where I'd call it fun, but I am to where I don't dread it. Keep up the great work!

    Congratulations!

Running is about enjoyment and not everyone grows to love it, what's important is that you challenged yourself and accomplished your goal.

Great job! Keep it up because the benefits of running are awesome. I just finished my 2nd 5K a couple of weeks ago and came in 16th in my women's age group. I was so excited. Now I'm training for my first 10K in October.

Woot! My first 5k was on the 19th - did the Color Run. Loads of fun. But discovered I couldn't run for any extended distance - which was, admittedly, my own fault for not training prior to the race (apparently the bootcamp classes I've been doing for the last few months is not sufficient training  ). So now I'm officially training and was super happy to be able to run a mile straight (albeit at a slow speed) before I took a walking break. And then only walked for a minute before I got back into it. Never thought I'd be able to run for any length of time, but I did it. So my goal is to be able to actually RUN the entire 5k that I'm doing in September.

I've tried C25K in the past and it didn't work for me. I work better (as I've discovered) running a specified distance as opposed to a specific amount of time. Right now I'm running a 13 minute mile and if you told me I had to run for 13 minutes I'd look at you like you were crazy, lol. But if I break it up by quarter miles, I don't feel like I'm running as long. It's all in my head, I know. LoL. Anyhow, I digress - CONGRATS!! :drinker:
