"Beyond Diet" Plan, Metabolic Typing Plans?

Hey MFP friends!
I am wondering if there are any folks on here the have used either the Beyond Diet plan or another type of Metabolic Typing plan? I've been researching the Beyond Diet plan and there are quite a few things that I found helpful and would probably incorporate into my current plan, even if I don't follow theirs. It's based on metabolic typing - you're either a Protein Type, Carb Type, or Mixed. So basically your meal plan/eating is based on what your type is and what you need more of, but it is still balanced in that you can still eat protein and carbs for either type, but which type you are determines how much of each. There's one main thing that I'm really questioning and hoping others might have experience and be able to shed a little light!

1. According to this plan, I would be eating roughly 2300 calories A DAY! (Although you don't actually count calories, you count servings, but your servings are based on your caloric needs) Right now MFP has me set at 1500 cal/day! That is a HUGE difference and it makes me nervous to attempt this! After all, wasn't eating too much what caused me to gain weight in the first place? Or was it truly that I was eating the wrong foods for my "type"?

Any experience on this type of plan/way of eating would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Melissa

    Hello Melissa,

Just for what it's worth, I'm about half-way through the home page of the Beyond Diet site and I'm also looking at their informational video.

Some of the info they present is pretty bad and I don't suggest buying into their methods.

That's just my opinion and I wish you luck.

Thanks! That's kind of what I was thinking, but figured it didn't hurt to see if others had success with something like this. I've seen the metabolic typing diets before but had never tried any of them. I will stick with what I'm doing - I know that works! lol Might be slower, but I know it works! ;-)

Beyond Diet has a money-back guarantee, so you're actually able to try it out for a 60 day period if you want. You can see all the people on the site who have been successful on the program!

And I wonder do they allow people to post on the site who discovered the diet to be mostly bunk?

I find it hard to believe them when they talk about a "protein type" or a "carb type". Sounds like quackery to me! Also the name is misleading, "Beyond Diet", when it's basically a diet. If you still consider it I advice you research it well.

My suggestion is that you really go beyond diet and just learn to enjoy exercise and enjoy healthy food. Don't (just) do exercise you hate, but do the type of exercise that you enjoy and keep trying new things. Incorporate moving in your life; cycle to work, take the stairs, etc - and learn to appreciate it (and if you keep hating it then stop doing it, it's important not to get frustrated). Educate yourself on nutrition and exercise. Learn what your body needs. In short change your lifestyle, step-by-step. It's the best way to make a sustainable change to your weight and health.
