quantity vs intensity cardio

I've recently started exercising harder than usual, with more intense cardio workouts. I was just wondering, is it better to workout for say 45 minutes, raising the heart rate but not getting too out of breath, or for about 20 minutes at a really high intensity, getting really red in the face and out of breath?
Obviously ideally I would workout for 45 minutes at a really high intensity but my fitness levels are definitely not there yet!

High intensity intervals for the benefit of raising your metabolism and keeping it high after you've finished your session. A 45 minute session will take time to warm up then tap into fat cells for energy and stops as soon as you do.
High intensity, short bursts will give greater results.0 -
That's great! Thankyou. It actually suits me much better to exercise that way, I get really bored if I'm not pushing myself.0
