Hello - been dieting a week

Hello all.
I'm Ellie. I'm 20, 5ft3in, and I started my weight loss at 202lbs. I've been at it for a week and have lost 6lbs so far (yay!). My goal is to be 154lbs by October when I go back to University for my final year.
I've been eating a lot better, adding more veg and fruit to my diet, as well as making a habit of looking at the calories and fat content of things. I have been honest with myself, keeping a diary of what I eat exactly every day, and I have found that this is really working for me. I realised that my portions that I was eating before were like twice as big as they should be!
I find that trying to cut out foods really doesn't help me, cause I want them even more then, so I have found that controlling the portions of everything that I eat and being honest with what I am eating and the calories in them has really been easier than saying "can't have this, can't have that). However, I have cut out adding extra salt to my food, and cut down on my sweet eating (I have a ridiculous sweet tooth!).
I am also trying to work out as much as I can. I do Jillian Micheal's 30 DS every day, and try to do my Zumba DVD as well for 45 minutes every day. I am also going to try and go for a walk as often as I can, too.
Fingers crossed I will get to my goal!

YOU can do this, It wont be easy but as long as you keep doing what you are doing now you will reash your weight loss goal.0

Best of luck Ellie! Our goals are similar and I imagine we will both feel great when we've both reached them - and we will!0

Thank you.
Yeah, that's all I am doing it for really. To make myself feel better about myself. My boyfriend is always going "Don't be doing this for me, you're beautiful no matter what", and although that is lovely, I assure him it REALLY is NOT for him! It's for me!
Even after just a week I am feeling a lot less tired and sluggish, I have more energy and everything!
The good thing is that I actually LIKE the food I am eating, because it's not really much different than what I already ate... just the portions are a LOT smaller! And I am exercising too, which I NEVER did. I can feel it working!0 -
Welcome Ellie, sounds like you're making all the right changes.
Just so you don't set yourself up for disappointment, losing 47lbs in 17 weeks is doable but it's very tough for most people (2.5lbs a week loss consistently). Your weight loss in these first few weeks will be fast (as you have seen with your 6lbs), but after a few weeks your metabolism will adjust and you will most likely see a slow down. Most success stories occur at an average rate of around 1lb loss per week, which would put you closer to the 170s by the time October rolls around - still a significant feat!
I'm not trying to be a debbie downer, it's just I see a lot of people set unrealistic goals and then quit altogether in frustration if they don't achieve them. I really, really hope you prove me wrong and blast through to your goal weight by october though!0 -

Oh yeah, I know it's a lot to strive for, don't worry I have already thought about that so you aren't putting a downer on anything.
I would love to be 48lbs gone for October, but if I don't reach that I will be fine... as long as I lose weight every time. I'll mentally prepare myself to be closer to the 170 mark, though
Thanks for your help.0 -

With this attitude I can already tell you're a success story. :drinker:0 -
Please do not take this the wrong way but this is a life style change and not a diet as I see a diet something that you do for a while and not for life. I wish you well in you target but as said above alot of people just give up and don't bother when things are not moving as they would like them to. If I were you I would break your goals down into more realistic targets to get to the bigger picture, don't let this be a chore let it be fun and enjoy it as you will be at it for along time to come.0

Awh, thanks!
I just want to be a bit smaller, that's all. I want to not have to buy "plus size" clothes (I am a size 18 at the moment, and I was creeping up to a 20). I want to be able to get up the stairs without being out of breath!
I don't strive to be a bikini model in a size 8. I just want to look in the mirror and not go "Who let the beached whale into the house?!" and instead go "Damn, girl, lookin' goooood!". A size 12 would be nice for that!0 -

Just bumping up my post... seeing if anyone is in a similar situation.
I have reassessed my goal and put myself at a goal of 161lbs... which means I have to lose a total of 41lbs... meaning I have 35 left to lose, putting me at a 2lb/week loss... a little more achievable but still impressive!0 -
I'm Ellie. I'm 20, 5ft3in,
I've just measured myself again and again (it was coming up between 5ft3in and 5ft5in)...and I am actually 5ft4in0
