OK so I feel comfortable doing cardio at the gym, and I do JM30DS at home, but I'd like to start doing lifting and I'm so self conscious/undeducated about the lifting machines at the gym. Unfort I'm usually there during unstaffed hours. Help?

Start with low weights and work your way up. 10-15 reps and the last couple should be difficult to push out. If it seems easy, then you'll need to go up the next weight. Trial and error. And everyone's there for the same reason. Usually people are pretty good about helping others out if you need help with something. :)Good luck!!

The machines are pretty self explanatory and designed so that you need no instruction to use them. The tricky part is when you're going to want to transition from using machines to free weights (which you will if you want to see legitimate strength/fitness gains).

Skip the machines and hit the free weights. There are plenty of great books (check your local library or Amazon) and websites that can help you design a program.

Youtube videos are the best. I was clueless too, so I just educated myself at home and then just spent some time on each machine. After a couple times, you'll be a pro at it. The hardest part is getting the seats adjust so they are at the appropriate level for your height.
