I have sustained a jones fracture (5th metatarsal) and a tear in my plantar fascia from marathon training/running. I was put into a hard cast 2 weeks ago and I am on crutches. I am having a really hard time because I was so active and doing well with my calories, etc, but now I'm in a funk! Has anyone been here before? What did you do? Any suggestions? I may be on crutches for another month =(

About 6 years back I tore my cartilage and my ACL( major stabilizing ligament in knee) in my right knee. I did this playing soccer and usually when I fell down I would get back up. This time I couldn't. I ended up being on crutches for about a month and then was walking with a cane because I was still having problems weight bearing. I went through a lot of rehab to hopefully get me back into sports A.S.A.P. Sadly they told me I couldn't till I had surgery. I got very depressed for a couple of week. I lived for my sports and it is hard losing your normal function of your legs. Rehab was the only exercise I got for the first while and then my physiotherapist said I could do light activities, no high impact sports. I went into doing yoga, loved and hated it at the same time.

Because I wasn't allowed to play sports for a good 1.5 years. I lost a lot of my great metabolism. Hence why i'm on MFP now :)

My suggestion... do your rehab and follow what your physiotherapist says. That will help you return to some normalcy faster and like I said it will be your only physical activity. Keep the rest of your body moving, doing weights with upper body. When your cast comes off get in the water/pool somewhere. It might be awhile till you can run but there are other fun activities out there. Just have to find one that will still challenge you physically but maybe in a different aspect. Make sure you still get out of the house too :)

Oh yea I also started seeing a massage therapist :) felt great and helped with a lot of my soreness that occurred from being on crutches and walking differently.
