Best Movie Night Snack Food

Just wondering what you guys snack on during movie night? My favorite is a extra large bowl of popcorn with real butter. Looking at over 700 calories on that. But I found that sunflower seeds in the shell is a better choice for me. A serving is around 190 calories. It takes me about 30 minutes to go thru a big bowl of popcorn but eating a serving of sunflower seeds takes about an hour if I eat them non stop.

If you're having an at-home movie night, I suggest an extra large bowl of air-popped popcorn with a little bit of butter and salt (or salt-free flavour shakers if you prefer). According to the database, 4.5 cups is 60 calories, and 2 TBS of margarine is 70 cal. Much better for you that movie popcorn.

Pork rinds. Beef jerky. Those Quaker rice chips.

Gum, so I can skip the unnecessary calories.

Popcorn with no butter (salt or some of those low calorie popcorn seasoning)
    Cut up fruit / veggies
Crispy minis (rice things - you can get butter flavoured I think)

Pizza or nachos - homemade, of course.
  • vegetable crisps! the real deal are quite high in fat because of the oil, but if you make it at home... it's basically salty vegetables! just peel the veges into slices with a mandalin or vege peeler, lay them on a baking tray, spray with oil, sprinkle with salt, then put in an oven on a high heat, turning ocasionally and watch until crispy!
i use things like carrots, beetroots, sweet potato and parsnips, healthy alternative to crisps!

We airpopped popcorn, with a bit of melted butter & chili powder ...... but hubby hated the kernels getting stuck in his teeth, now we get a small bag of peanuts in the shell ...... "interactive food" ..... those calories can add up to, so it's just a small bag .... best of luck !

I like the 100 calorie popcorn bags, and you can use spray butter with no calories. It's actually a lot of popcorn. Or pickles or a good munchie and very low calorie.

I'm good with microwave movie butter popcorn. Saves about 3-400 cals.

I like air popped pop corn - and it's a whole grain! I almost always will also add some veggies for variety - usually chopped celery and carrots.

    Love some pumpkin seeds too!

I tried this tonight! I did sweet potatoes, beets, and carrots. I must have sliced them too thick b/c they weren't really crispy, but they were tasty! I mixed some salt-free Tony's into a little oil and coated them all in a bowl before laying them out. Maybe I should have just brushed them with oil to help with the crispy-ness too :)

    Thanks for the idea!
