Sorry, but another calories burned question

I just completed C25K, week 5 day 3.. it is a brisk 5 minute walk, and a 20 minute jog with no breaks, followed by a 5 minute cool down walk...

The pedemoter I have says 256 calories burned.
MFP says, 20 minutes of jogging is 270 calories.
The Heart Rate Monitor I was wearing says 480.1 cal's burned.

The 256 and 270 I can handle averaging... but the HRM saying 480 throws me off.. Ever time I walk or jog, the HRM always reads higher than the other two. What do I trust? I don't want to be off by 200 calories.

It's hard to judge because it will depend on your weight and how hard you were working.
I use 10 cals/minute as a rough guide to see if the numbers seem reasonable, so for me, the 270 would be about right for 30 mins with some of it walking.
480 seems very high for 30 mins exercise, but if you are a bigger person it could be accurate.

Well done for completing the 20min run, I remember when that seemed completely impossible and I was so happy when I acheived it!

I have a Fitbit and a Polar FT4...I go buy my HRM, because it's actually tracking how hard I'm working and my FB is gauging my steps/stride length etc. but it is not an HRM. The machines are so generic, I just don't trust them. MFP guides have been way off, or so I noticed after I got my HRM.

This is just my experience...GOOD LUCK!

Cant hurt to just use the lower. If in doubt I generally overestimate my food and underestimate my exercise. Has done me well so far.

Are you using an HRM with a chest strap or just an HRM watch? If the latter you need to manually check your HR every now and then so it updates to your current heart rate. If you just do it once after you start your exercise it will calculate at that HR the entire time and thus could be off with the total it gives.

MFP numbers are only an estimate, and usually off for most folks.

The pedometer can count steps, and how long you stay active (aerobic activity), based on your initial calculated steps...
so kinda closer to actual calories burned.

HRM, most accurate, again based on your set up of the equipment.

    Go with the HRM~

I always figured if I am using MFP for the food I would use them for the exercise. They all are probably listed with a fudge factor but I figure it all evens out. Worked for me but I am a simple man with a simple mind.

the HRM I use is the Gotality. It plugs into my iPhone and has a clip that clips to my earlobe.. Very similar to the one they use in a hospital that they put on your finger.

When I ride my stationary bike, the HRM always reads lower than the bike or MFP.
But when I walk or jog, it always reads higher...

    I am 5'11 225lbs

I'm not sure about this brand.. but does it take all info(IE age, weight, height, gender and Vo2max) if not, then it won't be accurate.

Also does it use heart rate? Or no? I'm a bit confused about what the earlobe clip does.. that doesn't seem like a very good place to get an accurate heart rate reading.
