Exercise Logging

Im a bit confused. When I do a work out at the gym, I know exactly what calories to log in, but say Ive gone for a 60 minute brisk walk? Do they calculate it according to the stats you've put in for yourself(weight, age, height)? Or are they generalising?

They use your stats (weight etc) but of course it is still an estimate - which has worked fine for me, everything we add (including food) is an estimate anyway.0
