I don't hate you, but no.

I guess this would fall under friendship/support...
I have a friend (A) who is throwing a party for her birthday soon. She's a rather larger girl. I invited my other friend (B) because A said we could invite other people as long as we told her. Well it turns out A doesn't want B to go because B makes her feel quite large because B is in great shape.
Now, I understand her wanting to be the center of attention for her birthday, but is that going a bit far? It's putting me in a bad place with B because I had already invited her since she and A seemed to get along well at a different party. So I just had to tell B she couldn't go since A said too many people were already going. Then I added a bit of the real reason because I felt really bad.
What would you have done?

I would have gone to the party without inviting anyone extra0

I highly doubt that B makes A feel bad. I think A just has insecurity issues. I would have said something to A about it being unfair putting you in an awkward situation and how would she feel if someone put her in that situation? So wrong. I feel like Im in an episode of Pretty Little Liars LOL0

It sounds so childish.....really very sad for grown ups.0
-
This is borderline insane. I can't believe A would put you in that position! I am sure B, just by the virtue of being in shape, isn't a threat. Boy! This is upsetting, and I can totally understand why you would be upset.0
-
Hmmm without being mean, if that's the real reason then that's a bit sad. It's part of life to have to deal with people that are prettier / thinner / smarter / better at their job.
It's her birthday so her choice though...0 -
What would I do? Not go, I just don't have time in my life for that kinda crap anymore. I agree A is insecure...she's throwing herself a party? You'd be better off making plans with B and go out with them!
Just my 2 cents~0 -
I woulda just said that you won't be going because you would feel uncomfortable if your guest isn't welcome and also because thats a silly reason0

Wow these situations stopped happening in my world when I turned 16...0

Am I the only one that thinks being un-invited to a party because I look to dang good wouldn't be such a bad thing? I only wish I had that problem!0
-
I think A has definite balls. First she says sure bring a plus one. then she recants and expects you to recant on her behalf? All because the girl is smaller?
That's rude.0 -
Being a large girl that is 99% of the time THE largest girl, bday girl needs to realize that she can't control EVERYONE around her. You did the right thing... sucks bday girl has a BAD attitude!0
-
I would have told A that I can't attend and go someplace with B since I had invited B somewhere... A can deal with being stupid...0

^^ This. I'm sorry, but even if it's A's birthday.. that's no excuse to be rude or put you in that situation. I would have uninvited myself for the simple fact that no ADULT should have to be in the middle of something like this. I would have said "Wow, that really puts me in a bad position. I love you and I'm not -mad-, but I have to do what's best for me. I hope you have a great party."0 -
Honesty is key tell friend A

You're 21 and in Shawnee, so...you lose 10 year points. That makes this more understandable for people that don't know.0

I knew I liked you0 -
Oh yeah, B and I are going somewhere else after. A huge group of us are going to dinner and a bar/club for A's birthday, so it's not like she's having this lonely party at her place. And there will be other people there, so I don't know what her deal is.
I just feel bad because it seemed to me like they were getting along great, but I guess the whole ASSUMING thing doesn't work. :P
I'm actually hoping that as she sees me lose weight, she'll see it's not that hard after all and join me! Not that I have a problem with her size, she just seems so sad all the time. She's probably 300-350 at around 5'8".0 -

Hey now, I was not the one that acted like this. I was just asking for opinions.0 -

A sounds like an idiot. I would ditch A's party and go out for dinner with B instead. hahaha0

How spoilt of A.0

A....is ridiculous.0

I don't know that I would have gone to the party myself. Granted, you need to support your friends and whatever issues they face, but such a behavior is honestly really immature on her part. There are millions and a few billion people in the world -- some will look better than you, some will not. To try and control that in any way in unrealistic and a little selfish.0

This reminds me of an episode of Bridezillas where the bride was so insecure that she made sure no one in the bridal party looked better than her. She picked unflattering bridesmaids dresses on purpose and only chose bridesmaids that were heavier and less attractive than herself. Sad. I don't do drama, so none of my friends are like this, thank goodness!0
-
I would tell B the truth, and then probably stop being friends with A. I hate drama. And I hate people who drag me into their drama.0

I'd tell A that since I invited B to go somewhere, I'm not gonna cancel unless there is a good reason, thus will be going elsewhere with B. And be insulted that I was ugly enough to be invited...
Am I really the only one who's first reaction was "what? Are you sure you want me to go... Last chance to tell me I'm intimidatingly beautiful... No takers? Okay then..."0 -
aaaw.. i have friends who are in awesome shape and i love them.. they make me feel sexy and motivated... but then again theyre super supportive and a joy to be around. believe me i look like a baby hippo beside them. but i dont care they're great. A friend just has insecurities and other issues she needs to work on. Instead of making others feel badfor looking awesome she should get her big butt moving and be awesome as well (physically and mentally..) some people got nerve..0

It's looking like this is one of those 'simple for men...quantum physics for women' type things.
I'd have done what he said.0 -
I wouldn't go. Me and B would have fun somewhere else.0
