Ways to shake up my workout ...

Hi all!

Currently, I'm living in Spain and working out by doing 2 hours of speed walking at the park (it's a big park) and then some resistance stuff (ab workouts, squats, etc) in my flat (I live on the third floor, so I don't do a lot of jumping).

Things had been going really well, but I noticed that I'm starting to get bored and lazy with my workout (I still do them, just not with the intensity that I did them before). Any suggestions about how i might spice things up?

Couple of caveats:

1)I'm a student and I can't afford to take classes (I'm also only here for another month, so I'm trying to find easy ways to shake this up) or join a gym for a month.

2) Workout videos on youtube are a no-no since I have a really strict landlady and I don't want to be kicked out of my flat before June is up! lol

Anything I can do at the park that might be different?

I also have three resistance bands (light, medium and heavy) so if anyone has suggestions for those, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

If the landlady doesn't burst her bubble over it, you could run up and down the steps. Guaranteed you'll be exhausted after a couple of times. Do as much as you can, and increase the amount of time you spend doing it. Be careful not to trip.

Maybe you can incorporate some things into your walk. I did a boot camp once that we would do a run/walk around a path and at determined points along the path we would do different exercises. At one point there might have been a park bench that we did tricep dips on or maybe there's a kids jungle gym that you can do pullups or push-ups on or maybe there's a place that has a step that you could do step-ups on. Look at the environment as you take your walk and see if there are places and things you might be able to utilize. It will give you something to think about as you're walking too.

Also, bring your resistance bands with you and find something to wrap it around outside and use that to do build arm strength. They are light enough that they can go with you.

floor exercises that do not bounce the floor like:

    crunches
lying on the floor leg lift, leg spreader, flutter kicks
    push ups
    calf raises

here's one I do: standing- lock the knee and tighten leg muscles, point the right toe and swing the toe to the left while simultaneously doing a crunch by twisting the left elbow to the right, clench stomach muscles: works abs, leg muscles and pecs.

small circles: arms straight out, make small circles in the air and count to 100- works shoulder muscles

ball to the wall: get a ball (about 1 foot wide) and put it behind your back, feet on the ground slightly forward, and slide down- this is a squat with support. toes do not go past the toes

    Good luck!

Thanks so much for the suggestions! I can't wait to try out the bootcamp in the park and the non-jumping apartment exercises!

    Keep 'em coming!

Thanks again for your suggestions, everyone! I've now incorporated Couch 2 5K in my walks so I'm doing some jogging AND, I found an "adult jungle gym" with various bars and things to do exercises. I already feel more invigorated by this workout!

Nordic walking. It's great exercise. Don't know if you can find the sticks though.... Good luck!
  • It is nice to hear you got a lot of space and time to do that, What I always do in the past is a getting into treadmill for 45 minutes and a precision cycling for about 30 minutes in 3 times a week and it worked for me. Now I'm back to zero and it is so depressing.
