Is a personal trainer worth it?

So Im about 50 pounds overweight (baby weight, hypo, hamburgers ... etc) I am 5'3 with a very petite body frame when Im not so fat. I decided its finally time to do something about it. I have a gym membership and they have a special right now on personal training. I was thinking about doing it. I would get 2 days a week for an hour a time.
Do you think this would help me drop the flabby pounds? Or is it more for people trying to build muscle?
This last week when I go to wok out, I find myself hanging out on the treadmill or elliptical because I dont know what else to do. And even then I dont know what incline etc would be best for weight loss....

My personal trainer has been worth every penny, and then some. But it really depends on the trainer.
I love having a trainer to work on both weight loss and muscle building. I'm no longer nervous to try new exercises, and I am so much more confident. Honestly, weight loss doesn't keep me exercising, it's all the progress I see from all my hard work!
Give it six sessions or so; I do one session a week and work out 3-4 times on my own. Meet with a trainer before you sign up, ask about their experience, and work out what your goals/expectations should be. I was in chronic pain (arthritis, shoulder injury) before I met my trainer and wasn't expecting much...and now I am pain free and stronger than ever!0 -
If the special is good, why not try it? Having someone that is meeting you at the gym makes it easier to get there and get going. It sounds like you are going to learn something from it and get some guidance.
Before you meet with the personal trainer, think about what you want to get out of it. Do you want the trainer to show you how to use the machines or set up a workout schedule for you? Do you want to incorporate weights? What do you want to take away with you when the sessions end?
Do you get to pick the trainer? Sometimes personalities don't mesh and you wouldn't want to be stuck with someone who pushes you in a direction you don't want to go. Will you be able to change or cancel if you want to?0 -
I would say that they are a good investment. I've lost more weight with my trainer than I ever have in my life. He's making me lose weight sensibly, which is slower than I'd like (i.e. a quick fix) but he says that this way its less likely that I will put the weight back on!
Anyway, sorry i digressed, if you do deicde to go ahead then make sure you meet up with them first. At the end of the day you need someone who you can get on with but also someone who will push you and help you get results rather than just be there while you work out! I would definitely meet a few. I think I met about 6 in total when I was looking for a trainer and I ended up going with the one who I felt I "clicked" with, yes he had the least experience BUT he was the right person for me! I hate during pretty much every training session because he works be harder than I ever would on my own but that's what I need him to do....and he's getting me results!
What I am trying to say in a very long winded way is that if you can, go for it! Most will do a taster session too so you can try them out and stuff.
Hope that helps a bit, sorry for rambling!0
