How many miles did you go in one hour? I think you may have logged the exercise wrong. Also, did you only consume 1250 total calories and not eat your exercise cals?

    Check your numbers...

You would have to weigh about 900 pounds to burn that many calories going 2 miles.

A 6 minute mile is fast and would have given you 10 miles in 1 hour. Please check your numbers BEFORE you eat the exercise calories

I'm a little confused. You said you went 2 miles in an hour, but logged at 10 mph, so wouldn't you have gone 10 miles in an hour?

Dos. 2 miles. We have a large and small PT track here at the Army Post (I am a civilian, so don't salute me  My calorie intake is 1,250 per day.
    I  to Google, too

US Department of Health Estimated Average Requirements (EAR) are a daily calorie intake of 1940 calories per day for women and 2550 for men.

How many calories are needed each day can vary greatly depending on lifestyle and other factors.

Factors that affect your personal daily calorie needs include your age, height and weight, your basic level of daily activity, and your body composition.

You can find out the daily calorie intake recommended for you free, using the tools in WLR. Simply tap in your details and the programme will work out how many calories you need. Try it Free

In order to lose weight you need to eat less calories per day than your body needs. To lose 1lb a week you need a negative calorie balance of 500 calories per day. To lose weight at 2lb a week you need to reduce your calorie intake by 1000 calories a day.

Weight Loss Resources has all the tools you need to calorie count for weight loss. Including online calorie and nutrition databases, with information for UK and USA foods. Try it free, there's no obligation and you'll learn a lot in a short session.

The programme adds up the calories you consume through the day and deducts them, as you go along, from your daily calorie allowance. So you'll always know how many calories you have left for the day. It also takes account of the calories used during exercise

I am sorry to say this but that can not be correct. If it took you 1 hour, to do 2 miles your speed would be 2 MPH, I do 2.5 miles in 36 min and burn 274 calories. I go to the website below to calculate correct time and speed, check it out. :flowerforyou:

Guys!   I TIME myself! I run a quarter of a mile (the large track) in 10 minutes. I run 4 times around the quarter of a mile track in 50 minutes (I stretch 5 mintues before and after). Am I to tell the MAJOR in the office his calculations are wrong? I also googled a quarter of a mile. I do this regimen for an hour and have lost 20 pounds.....   PLEASE TELL ME WHAT I SHOULD BE LOGGING IN,  (SNIFF, SNIFF, snort, Eva wiping her arm on her sleeve).

I'm just going to chyme in here too, just so you don't eat all those "extra" calories and regret it later...

It would be a virtual miracle of science if running for two miles had someone burn over 1200 calories. For example, I still have 45lbs to lose and I ran a half marathon last weekend and burned 1600 calories (the half marathon took me just over 2 hours and is of course 13.12 miles. Also, a 6 minute mile is an incredibly fast pace. Just make sure you're checking your stats. You should check out mapmyrun.com to figure out your distance and then you can get an accurate interpretation of how fast you went per hour. Cheers!

I have to agree with the others. The math seems a little off. Doing high level Kung Fu for an hour will burn close to 1,000 cals, vigorous Zumba will burn 600. I just got back from my morning walk. I went 1 mile in 1/2 an hour. My pedometer says I burned 200 cals.

Okay - I see it's on a track. So you're running 2 miles per hour then, right? I still feel like something's off here because a 2-3mph pace is pretty leisurely walking.

And if you ran a 10 minute mile (like your correction to your earlier entry) then you would have done 2 miles in 20 minutes. Still not adding up...

I'm very confused if you ran 2 miles in a hour than you would obviously be moving at 2 MPH logged on here as a leisurely walk.

It looks like you logged that you ran at 10 MPH for an hour, which would kill most people. I think something may be wrong here.
  • you logged it in wrong is all you did.

If you run 1/4 of a mile in 10 min. you couldn't possibly be running at 10mph for a 6 min. mile. Do you see?

If you run 1/4 of a mile in 10 min. then you would run a mile in 40 min and 2 miles in 80 min. Thus you would be jogging at an extremely light effort

I for example run a mile in 12 min. which means I run at 5mph and if I could run at 6mph then I would run a 10 min. mile and if I ran at 6mph for 60 min. I would have run 6 miles. Do you see the calculations?

I'm sorry to rain on your parade hunny, but your calculations are impossible.

I once burned 1250 calories by hiking with my bf for 5 hours carrying 15lbs on my back.

I guess I don't understand how you think you went 10mph?

If you are going 4 times around a track that is 1/4 mile long, that is 1 mile. If it takes you 50 minutes to complete this, that is 1 mile in 50 min. so you are going just over 1 mph, not 10 mph. If you were going 10mph you would have ran 20 miles in 2 hours, not 2 miles.

So 4 times around a quarter mile track is only 1 mile - do you actually go 8 times around....I am confused....

768 in one hour still sounds really high....

I can run a 5k and only burn about 400 calories....(3.1 miles in about 36 minutes)
  • That would still be wrong hunny!

If you said you run 1/4 of a mile in 10 min. then you'd run 1 mile in 40 min. and 2 miles in 80 min. which would mean you were walking the track at 2mph.

Well that's what the Major in the office told me  We have the very large PT track (and the man measuring it w/a wheel [calibrate] told me the large track was a quarter of a mile) and I do 4 times around it in 50 minutes (+5 minutes for stretching before and another +5 minutes after I run). I time myself and I do a quarter of a mile in 10 minutes. I "changed" my exercise diary to reflect 10 minutes a mile and got 768 calories burned...I'll take it!

Don't be upset. What you are doing IS working for you! You are losing weight. It's just that you may not burning as many calories as you thought. But don't let it discourage you. It doesn't matter how fast you are going just continue to exercise. Just log it as 2mph for 60 minutes if you are eating back your calories. Or you could purchase a heart rate monitor.

You are doing great! Congrats on the 20lbs!

Yep, this still isn't working out. I think you're looking at just a couple hundred calories at most because 2 miles in 1 hour is a leisurely walking pace...

And I'm not just blowing smoke here (although in this case, the math just doesn't lie) - I'm a personal trainer! It's great you're doing what you're doing and congrats on the loss. Just make sure you're giving yourself an accurate representation of your work so you don't derail your progress.

Does it take you 10 min to walk around it ONE time or FOUR times? Because if it takes you 10 min to walk around it one time then it is 40 min for one mile.

Do you see what you've said here? You time yourself doing a QUARTER of a mile in 10 minutes. You're changing your diary to reflect a 10 minute mile. That means your diary is showing an effort FOUR TIMES what you actually did. 1/4 mile in 10 minutes = 1 mile in 40 minutes. That's a 40 minute mile, not a 10 minute mile.
