So, if I am understanding this right, it is somewhat similar to a BodyBugg but no monthly charge? Hmm...
ETA: There's a review of the fitbit here: http://www.engadget.com/2009/10/15/fitbit-review/0 -

From what I understand the bodybugg is for people who want to lose a lot of weight and is more focused on that. Yes there's a charge for the monthly account with the body bugg and I don't know that I like the bugg sticking out like a store thumb on my arm.
The fitbit is tiny and I like the fact that it monitors your sleep. I am always so tired! The bugg doesn't do that.0 -
Thanks for the link! I am definitely going to think about getting one!0

I didn't realize the body bug charged you...I was thinking of getting one but I don't want to have to pay for it every month. I have a lot of weight to loos and stuff i just want something that will help me with my calories burned.0

If this is just an accelerometer, then it probably isn't accurate enough (it already doesn't register exercise calories) to justify the price--probably not much more than what you manually enter though the MFP database.
Couple of things to keep in mind. First of all, there are different kinds of accelerometers--2D and 3D. Things like the BodyBugg, GoWearFit, and the Wii use the 3D version. That would be a "must-know" feature before you even think of putting down any $$ for this device.
Second--like heart rate monitors, these things do not measure ANYTHING directly. They generate impulses which must be analyzed and interpreted into something meaningful. These devices are only as good as the software and research behind them. A key factor is differentiating between activity-related movement and non-activity-related movement. For example the BodyBugg and GoWearFit have three other sensors to help rule out non-movement variables--this improves their accuracy.
Based on the review cited in one of the comments, I can't say I was impressed by this.0 -

They seem to be opting for a business model that is focused on the features of the website, rather than selling just the hardware--almost like your cell phone service provider. Given that the BodyBugg is sold by a division of a health club chain (24 Hour Fitness) it almost seems like they are trying to set up a "virtual health club".0 -

I can't afford to seriously consider either of those right now, but I *would* be interested in hearing from anyone who has tried this. If you get one, please come back and let us all know what you think!0

I can't afford it either I am joining a gym after the 1st of the year (the one I want to join is opening 5 min from my house in january). I rather spend the money on that i think.0
