Hey is there anyone out there trying to gain weight? My gf is 53kgs and wants to put on weight. She eats lunch and dinner and drinks heaps of hospital grade sustagen/proform/mushashi bulk milk shakes.
Any tips for her to gain weight in a healthy way? She has a muscle disease and more weight would really help her health.

My friend is trying to gain weight. She is about 5'10" and weighs just under 55kg and needs to be around the 60kg or so mark. She's checked out MFP, has a profile and everything but can't be bothered logging - similar attitude that she takes with food She's just not interested in eating and struggles significantly to get her required 2000+ cals a day (to meet a goal of half a pound gain per week)
I believe she has recently tried Sustagen but hasn't kept up with it.0 -

Medical related questions cannot be answered here... She needs to consult with the physicians who are supervising her.....0 -
Yeah i realise medical questions can't be answered and she sees a gp fortnightly and a pain specialist once a month.... was just after tips on how others have gained weight in a healthy way.0

You still cant because each person is going to be different. Their medical situations may require either more or less treatment and could be considered counter-productive and make the situation worse....
Youre still asking for medical related information.... please.. be smart - dont..... send her back if she is having problems.....0 -
Hi, sounds like you & your gf are doing the right thing with the doctors etc so I'll just bump this for you & hopefully someone will come along that maybe has something supportive to say that may have been in a similar position to you.
I haven't so will not offer advice, only bump. Good luck.0 -
As it's a muscle wasting disease, could the effects be slowed somewhat by copious protein intake? Protein shakes are a good way to top up on both calories and protein so may be worth a look. Even if they do nothing for her condition, they should help her to gain weight.0

I would suggest that she up her protein intake and her healthy fats. Maybe blend an avocado with some powder protein. What have her doctors told her about her weight/health? What kinds of foods is she currently eating? How many calories is she getting right now? Have her doctors told her a calory goal. Some diseases require more calories/protein/fat because of the way they work in the body.0
