Hi everyone!
I joined MFP about three days ago! I am 25 years old, am 5'5" and currently weigh 210 (though everyone thinks I look like I weigh maybe 175 which I never complain about) and I have a goal to get down to 155 for right now but I may lower that a little bit as I get closer to that goal.
I would like to meet some people and have some supporter friends who are open-minded and just like to have fun! I have a wide variety of interests and am an open-minded person when it comes to people's opinions and beliefs. I used to play water polo back in college and still play every once in a while if there is a Master's team going in the area. I go to the YMCA about 4 days a week on average and do about a two-hour workout combing both cardio and weight lifting. I enjoy playing video games, both PC and console. Sadly, I just moved and my consoles are all in storage (I really miss some of my games!) and right now I play (some of you will hate me for this) Star Wars: TOR. I am sorry. I like it. Get over it! I also watch Anime! One of my favorites is Black Butler and my all-time devotion and very first anime that I ever watched is Sailor Moon (also the basis of my screen name). I enjoy many tv shows: House, Star Trek, Firefly, Ally McBeal, and many more!
For outdoor activities, I like hiking, camping, gardening, kayaking on the lake, being out with nature in general, horse-back riding,,,etc. I love animals--I have two dogs and two cats. I used to have a horse a few years back but he passed. Someday, I want to get a bearded dragon but not right now.
As far as religious views (I know many may not want to approach this topic but it is part of diversity and acceptance)--I am pretty casual--I like to think that there is something after this life but I also like my freedom to think what I want and do what I want without feeling like I will be placed in eternal damnation. I have friends who are Bhuddist, Wicca, Christian, Atheists...etc and get along just fine with all of them because they too are open-minded and accepting of people's opinions. I like to think that Magic still exists and that it is just hidden.
My degree is in Kinesiology--which basically means the study of human movement, health and exercise. I just finished my Master's degree where I focused on developing programs for individuals with disabilities. It was a one year program and is also where I put on a lot of my weight really fast--about 15-20 pounds in the year. Of course I feel like a contradiction--my degree focuses on health and I am overweight. I really hate feeling like the hypocrite and I don't want that anymore! At the same time...at least now I will have a success story to share with my clients!
That is me in a nutshell but don't judge me or think you know me because I have many secrets and always surprise people--even those who have known me for years!

Hey there...
I just joined a few days ago too. I have got to say I am loving the organization so far. By the way I love the novel you just wrote us, I tend to do the same thing. My teachers hate it, when they ask for 250 words, I'm like 'Is 2 pages okay?'
Anyways. My name is Nicole. my user name anagrams into my full name... so I think that falls under the geek category. I am 21 and going into my last year of college for Graphic Design. I am 280lbs right now, about 5,10.
Some of my opinions on things you mentioned: Firefly and House are awesome! I have never been too big on gaming except Tetris, Peggle, The Sims and recently I am addicted to Minecraft. I love card games and board games though, so much. Nature and I have a love hate relationship. I love it, but it tries to eat/kill me so we see each other on a need to basis. I have had 2 dogs and 2 cats growing up and just this last week got my first cat on my own. She is 4 years old, grey and named Kinky (she is sleeping on top of the upper kitchen cupboards as I write this). On the topic of religion: most people think I am an atheist but that isn't necessarily true. I believe in A god but not organized religion. Actually, I think it is probably too big of a job for just one and there are probably many. Like Greek mythology I guess. I live in Canada and my heritage is Scottish and I feel really connected to Scotland for some reason, even though I have never been.
I lost 30lbs by myself and got down to 215lbs before first year of college and have gained the weight starting slowly, then rapidly over the last year. This last year has been very hard for me. I have been incredibly stressed lately so I decided it is time to make a change especially since I have additional health issues that make being overweight more of a risk factor for me than for the 'average' person.
I would really like to build a support system here and would be glad to help you along your journey as well. Since I was able to do it before I know I can do it again.
I wouldn't worry too much about being a hypocrite, because you are trying to make a change you have already rendered that invalid Besides, you have a lot of knowledge that you can now put towards making this an easier lifestyle transition for yourself.
Talk to you soon. Nicole0 -
Wow these are awesome! Thanks so much! Being so new here I didn't know that there were groups like this that we could join! Hi Nicole, I am Serena.
HahaI I know what you mean about writing books when all you need is a one page essay! Some of my teachers used to get on me about that but I always got good grades anyway! Only time I got really called on it was when I had to keep weekly journals for an internship and I turned in something like 4 pages and she writes back and said "Wow! Very detailed! Keep it at no more then 1 1/2 from now on though. I just need an overview of what has happened this week, not a daily review of the whole week."
Yay for House and Firefly!!! I am always bummed that we never TRULY find out about Shepard's past. I actually watched Serenity first and I felt like I was missing so much then a year or so later I met this friend and he was all "You know there is a whole entire tv show prior to the movie...right?" I was like "Uhh...nooooo." So of course I had to go out and buy it.
Congrats on getting to your last year! Bet you can't wait until you are done! I know I couldn't! Now I am kind of wishing I was back in school with the economic times being so hard but at the same time...I don't miss all the late-nighters finishing last minute projects.
Aww Kinky! Was that the name of the cat when you got her or did you rename her that? One of my two cats is truly mine and I just got him back in November-ish. and he was born around September so he is almost 9 months old. His name is d'Artagnan from Three Musketeers. He is a sweetheart but also a major brat. Can't wait until he calms down a bit (hopefully) in the next year or so.
That is so cool about your heritage! I also have Scottish root--German, Scottish, and English is my main heritage...but I have always been majorly attached to my Scottish side more then any of the others. I think I like their stories and myths more and how they still blur the lines over there between reality and myth and how so many still believe in "the little people". I haven't been to Scotland yet either but hope to get there someday!
I would definitely like to talk more! I will add you as a friend and I am sure we can be great supports for each other!!!
Great to meet you!0
