Old pants seem smaller?

So, when I was 18 I had went to the doctor and I weighed 280. Weighing myself now, I weigh 282.4 at 21 years old. The pants that I used to wear were a size 20. I wear a size 22 right now and they are comfortable, or even slightly loose. The size 20s that I already own are really tight still, yet the are the same brand that the 22s I have are and being close to the weight I was when I wore them makes me wonder why they don't fit. By tight, I mean really tight. Does denim shrink after going unworn for a few years? Or is it my body that is being strange?

No, denim does not shrink when it is just sitting in a drawer.

Denim shrinks a tiny bit each time is is washed, and it shrinks even more when put in a dryer. 20 washes can add up to quite a bit. 20 dryer loads can make something that was snug shrink so that it does not even fit anymore.

Clothing is cut larger now. I weighed 140 lbs in high school and wore a size 10. I weigh 140 pounds now and wear a size 6 or 8.

I think the OP's problem was that she's only gained 2 pounds, but the old pants do not fit anymore?
