is it really that important to stretch before and after exercise? I only ask cause I don't, and I haven't gotten pulled muscles or any injury as of date...

I'm reading "The First 20 Minutes" by Gretchen Reynolds, and her conclusion is that stretching prior to exercise is actually counterproductive.

This! Most recent research indicates that pre workout static stretching is useless at best and counter productive at worst. Dynamic stretching, eg, the same movements as the exercise with less load are somewhat helpful but not critical.

I have my clients do a dynamic warm up, which is where they are moving through full ranges of motion on total body activities with no resistance. As part of a cool down, I recommend the static stretching just to prevent stiffness and soreness. Another way to improve flexibility is to do Yoga, Pilates, or Tai Chi workouts.
