i am not AGAINST wholegrain but personally i have formed an opinion against certain kinds. for example rice and barley have to be cooked in order to eat them. so see that as unnatural in a way. any opinions with/without scientific evidence?

Chicken has to be cooked as well. Is this, by extension of your argument, also bad?

true! this is not a solid opinion, just a thought as to what im eating.
everybody seems to just listen to what the internet, newspapers,tv is telling them is good for them and im just trying to explore it myself. we are all told all of these things are good for us, but its like where is the proof? we are just blindly listening. so i want to know more!

so i want to know more!

    Nothing wrong with that!
  • I have to eat wholegrain everything due to an intolerance to the high amounts of Starch in Whitened products. So I guess Starch is a product in things that are not wholegrain that might not be as healthy for you. Wholegrain also has the higher fibre.

Actually, white rice is perfectly fine for example. The concept of eating white vs brown is typically based on either fiber or glycemic index and GI is basically useless. Brown rice will have a bit more fiber but if you're getting adequate fiber through other food sources then it really doesn't matter.

I think it would be a good endeavor to not look at foods as good or bad, and start looking at your diet as a whole. If you want to avoid foods, do it because of your taste buds or your medical/personal needs.

One thing I find interesting is bread talk - people say that we only recently started eating white flour and that the reduction in whole grains has been part of the obesity "epidemic" - but the majority of history's bread was somewhat sifted of bran - so more of an 80/20 type thing.

There are also studies that eating lots of bran can cause digestive inflammation and lead to problems that way. It's all kind of confusing, so I don't really fret over most grains- I just eat what I prefer and try to let the macros lead me in the right direction. :)

i think that this whole concept of foods is just really confusing.
i am chosing to stay on the natural+raw path. i wouldnt cut wholegrains from my diet completely, and i am not convinced they are bad for you, . i could never give up my oats, wheatbix and homemade cereal. its all about finding your own balance i guess. and research, research research :)
