Hi,
I walk 3 miles regularly(4-5days/week). I never had problems till today. I went out for a walk today and my calves hurt really bad that I had to turn back after 1 mile. Is this because I'm overdoing?(I did 8 miles on saturday)

Can I continue with my other workouts today or do I need to rest my body for a day? Please advise.

Thanks

    did you change your shoes?

did you change your route? ie. more up/down hills?

how much do you stretch and what stretches do you do?

If you walked 8 miles Saturday, that is likely the culprit. I walk 3.5 to 4 mikes a day but sometimes bump it up a couple of miles and really feel it when i do! Rest for a day or two and try again.

Same shoes and the same route.

Yep it's more than likely from doing the 8 miles on Saturday.

I'd probably push through my workouts, if it was me. I'd just be slower. That actually happened to me last week. I did the P90X plyometrics workout and it was a killer, my calves were killing me. I did suffer through my 10k run the next day, but I was a good 10 minutes slower than my normal.

But it's totally up to yourself. There's a difference (to me anyway) between an actual injury, NEEDING a rest day, and just plain old post workout soreness. The first two require you to stop. The third one is just personal preference.

Kind depends. Is it just muscle soreness?

Yes. I guess its muscle soreness. I pushed myself really hard last week.
I worked out almost 2-3hrs/day whole last week. I will take a rest day.
    Thanks :)

Yeah your body will tell you when you are over-doing it. Stretching a bit should help too.
