Going on a cruise the first week in August and - even though I feel like I'm likely to gain back whatever I lose between now and then ON the cruise -- it still feels like if I don't try to do something I am missing a potential good motivator to try to get myself somewhere closer to where I want to be.
I'm a 35 y/o GWM in Nashville, TN. Being gay and fat is pretty tough -- I know it is the main reason why I am chronically single and have never been in love. It is not normally my style to just toss everything out there like this, but...MFP provided me with a little bit of success a while back but I didn't stick with it for much longer than 5 or 6 weeks...so in an effort to not keep doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result, I thought that I would try to get involved in the community portion of this and see if that helps me any.
I love food...many days it seems like the only good thing that can happen to me on a particular day...is to be able to choose whatever I want to have for dinner. I eat out 99% of the time (literally) and I don't see that changing much in the near future -- but I know I can make healthier choices when it comes to that and I'm hoping to find some ideas here for new options that are both healthy(er) and satisfying. Or easy, easy grab-and-go kindof things that I can keep at home/bring to work.
I started back on the bandwagon this morning with 2 hard-boiled eggs and a plain english muffin but I'm not sure what I'm going to have for lunch. I also need to figure out what my strategy is going to be...to try to eat light at breakfast and lunch and then have something closer to something I would normally enjoy for dinner...or to try to space the calories out evenly throughout the day. I am also going to try to commit to walking for 30 minutes 3-4 days this week; I'm not even certain if my membership at the Y is still active, but regardless I have been paying for it for more than a year and haven't been more than three times so I thought a new approach might be in order.
I've struggled with my weight since I was about 6 or 7 years old, and I would really like to get a chance to see if life "on the other side" is all it is cracked up to be. Any help/suggestions/encouraging words/ideas for groups or forums to join for additional support is appreciated, as well as specific no-brainer meal plans or "diets" (other than just counting calories which seems to be the "diet" of choice here).
Wish me luck!
Sincerely,
Adam M.

I feel the best with lunch being my biggest meal, but if you work that can be hard.
Buy lean meats ; fish, ground turkey, steak, chicken.
I eat a home made burrito or turkey tacos for lunch, yogurt & tropical fruit for snack, salad or coleslaw for dinner. (example)
Actually you can check out my diary, altho thingy says weight loss 5 lbs, its 35 lbs.
Welcome to look at my diary, and if need be ask for recipe if you like.
Once you get into a habit of eating healthy, the cruise should come easy. ☺0

Feel free to add me too!!
My first suggestion is to come up with a plan!!!! Much easier to decide what to eat if you know what kind of plan you want to follow. For instance, watching calories or portion sizes. Or low carb, high protein... etc. Just my two cents anyway. I started out just watching calories, trying to stay around 1200 a day and I was able to lose about 20 lbs that way without much work. But I have alot to lose so those pounds were faster to come off.0

It seems you are on the right track. I encourage you to use that Y membership. That is what turned things around for me....get your butt moving.
Best of luck, we are all in this together. Feel free to add me if you'd like!

Oh Adam!! For someone who eats out almost all of the time-- two hard boiled eggs and an english muffin??!! BORING
First, I highly suggest making it more enjoyable. Look at other peoples diaries for some good ideas on what is quick and easy and will satisfy your appetite. Grocery shopping will be very important. Meijer has some really good pre-made salads that will last in the fridge for a while- and they're good. Not the iceberg-boring stuff.
Water is very important. If you're eating out, your sodium is probably through the roof. Track your water. Carry a water bottle with you at all times. Water can be boring, so I buy all kinds of MIO water additive.
Add me as a friend if you like. I keep my diary open. I'm not the best person to give weight loss advice, but I feel strongly about my above suggestions. Best wishes. 0 0
